Education: (see schedule o)education: mchs - northland offers numerous educational seminars, classes and opportunities for its patients, their families, employees, community members and the general public. Over 20,000 area residents were served by the various programs. Some examples of our community activities include:mchs - northland offered prenatal classes and breastfeeding classes free of charge to mchs - northland patients, reaching approximately 105 people.mchs - northland staff provided assistance with safety precautions and emergency medical coverage at various community events such as the rice lake aquafest, rice lake air show, barron high school football games, cross country meets, city hockey tournaments, and local parades.educational seminars offered to area residents, community groups, and health care workers included the following presentations: diabetes self care classes, health coaching, women & heart disease, diabetes & endocrin disorders, wellness-stop smoking, take care of your whole self, women's health series, along with numerous tours, talks and demonstrations for area elementary and high school students.breastfeeding support group assisted area women needing support.presented health information at: witc health fair, uw-barron county, career exploration day at rice lake high school, rice lake weighing systems health fair, barron electric health fair, health careers at barron high school, children's safety fair, and health & wellness expo cameron high school reached 4,486.

Other community benefits (schedule o)other community benefits:1608 meals were provided to meals on wheels at below cost.volunteer activities: mchs - northland receives donated services from community volunteers. During 2011, volunteers donated over 8,500 hours of volunteer service to the hospital, valued at approximately $185,215 based on the independent sectors average estimated value of such services. These service hours were spent organizing and managing activities for the benefit of our patients, patients' families, visitors, and staff.ambulance service and other: the ambulance service is a hospital based service with three ambulances and provides emergency response to the entire surrounding community. There were 666 ambulance runs and 328 inter-facility transfers in 2011. Emt's are on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.mchs - northland provides an instymeds machine in the facility to provide patients access to emergent medication prescriptions generated from the emergency department when retail pharmacies are closed. There were 1,685 prescriptions filled thru instymeds in 2011.
