Activity 2

Right start/independent living - this program serves 17 year old and young unwed mothers. Many of these women have no income when they move in. Instead, if they are aging out of foster care. The child welfare system assumes responsibility for support. If a young woman is pregnant, st. Catherine residence heavily subsidizes her rent so that she can enroll in the state's employment and training program. Both the teens and mothers are expected to at least finish high school, to find some employment, and to save money toward their independence. The mothers also learn about nurturing their child.

Activity 3

Next step - this program is specifically designed for women who are homeless and have a disability. This program is intense including aoda recovery services and a doctor's care, if needed, since most have a significant mental health diagnosis. Funded by hud, the services focus not only on health maintenance, but also on employment seeking, training, and social skill development. The women tend to be in their late forties or older and often need to establish a new social network as part of building their lives and finding purpose.
