Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Asante physician partners exists to enhance the quality and cost-effective delivery of healthcare services in the community it serves by acting as a vehicle to promote the clinical integration of physicians and hospital services.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Asante physician partners second largest accomplishment based upon functional expense is the recruitment and retention of doctors in our community. During fiscal year 2012, asante physician partners recruited 13 doctors from out of the area, and also retained an additional 13 doctors who were in private practice in the community. One of asante physician partners main goals is to provide to the citizens of our community a broad array of general practitioners and medical specialists. We feel it is a significant benefit to the citizens of our community that they do not have to travel to a large city to obtain specialized medical treatment. Most of their medical needs can be met locally.
Activity 3
Our final program service accomplishment has been the recruitment of an orthopedic surgeon and pediatric oncologist. We consider this to be a significant accomplishment because these specialties have been very difficult to recruit and retain in our area.

ASANTE PHYSICIAN PARTNERS IS ON THE FOREFRONT OF THIS PARADIGM SHIFT, FOSTERING A STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT AMONG PHYSICIANS, OTHER HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS, HOSPITALS, AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY. WE BELIEVE THAT THE BEST RESPONSE TO THE CHALLENGES OF HEALTHCARE REFORM IS TO TAKE ACTION NOW INSTEAD OF TRYING TO CATCH UP LATER. THE COST OF HEALTHCARE IN THE UNITED STATES HAS REACHED UNSUSTAINABLE LEVELS. MANY HOSPITALS ACROSS THE COUNTRY HAVE HAD TO CLOSE THEIR DOORS. THIS IS ESPECIALLY PROBLEMATIC IN RURAL AND SMALL URBAN AREAS. WHEN HOSPITALS IN THESE AREAS SHUT DOWN, THE DOCTORS LEAVE, AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY HAVE TO TRAVEL HUNDREDS OF MILES IN SOME CASES TO OBTAIN MEDICAL CARE. MANY OF THESE HOSPITALS FAIL BECAUSE OF A LACK OF DOCTORS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE COMMUNITIES. ONE OF THE MAIN GOALS OF ASANTE PHYSICIAN PARTNERS IS TO RECRUIT A BROAD ARRAY OF DOCTORS TO RELOCATE TO OUR COMMUNITY, AS WELL AS RETAIN THE DOCTORS WHO ALREADY RESIDE HERE. WE WISH TO HAVE AVAILABLE TO THE CITIZENS OF OUR COMMUNITY A LARGE BASE OF PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANS, AS WELL AS NUMEROUS PHYSICIAN SPECIALISTS INCLUDING CARDIOLOGISTS, SURGEONS, ONCOLOGISTS, AND MUCH MORE. THE FOCUS OF ASANTE PHYSICIAN PARTNERS IS NOT MERELY TO EMPLOY THESE DOCTORS, BUT TO ALSO ENCOURAGE THEM TO ESTABLISH THEIR MEDICAL PRACTICE IN THE COMMUNITY AND MAKE THE ROGUE VALLEY OF SOUTHERN OREGON THEIR HOME. AS A RESULT, THE CITIZENS OF SOUTHERN OREGON DO NOT NEED TO TRAVEL ALL THE WAY TO A MAJOR CITY TO OBTAIN SPECIALIZED MEDICAL CARE. MOST ALL THEIR MEDICAL NEEDS CAN BE TAKEN CARE OF RIGHT HERE IN THE ROGUE VALLEY. WE WANT DOCTORS WHO EXCEL AT THEIR PROFESSION, CARE ABOUT THE PATIENT AS A WHOLE, AND WANT TO COLLABORATE WITHIN A COMMUNITY OF LIKE-MINDED DOCTORS. THE DOCTORS WE EMPLOY ALSO TREAT ALL COMERS. THAT MEANS WE WILL TREAT MEDICARE, MEDICAID, AND UNINSURED PATIENTS THAT MANY SELF-EMPLOYED DOCTORS OFTEN LIMIT OR TURN AWAY. THIS IN TURN HAS THE ADDED ADVANTAGE OF KEEPING PATIENTS OUT OF THE BUSY EMERGENCY ROOMS OF THE HOSPITALS FOR BASIC, NON-EMERGENT MEDICAL NEEDS SIMPLY BECAUSE THE PATIENT CANNOT FIND A DOCTOR TO TREAT THEM. THIS NOT ONLY HELPS KEEP HEALTH CARE COSTS DOWN, BUT ALSO PROMOTES A BETTER OUTCOME FOR THE PATIENT IN GENERAL. THE DOCTORS AT ASANTE PHYSICIAN PARTNERS ARE PLAYING A PIVOTAL ROLE IN DEVELOPING A COLLABORATIVE AND COORDINATED HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATION THAT MODELS EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS TO THE CHALLENGES OF THE CURRENT HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT NOT ONLY IN OUR COMMUNITY, BUT ACROSS THE NATION AS A WHOLE.
