Major Activities

Activity 2

The purpose of mental health and substance abuse services is to promote recovery and minimize stigma through community education and the reduction of symptoms of mental illness and substance abuse. Throughout all of the organization's sites, the organization assists consumers in their recovery process by conducting individual sessions, group therapy, community integration, assessments, crisis planning, and intakes. Major accomplishments for mental health and substance use disorder services included: 1) expansion of evidence-based programs, including iddt, motivational interviewing and assertive community treatment; 2) continuation of relationships with universities as a social work placement site; 3) integration os substance use disorder and mental health services; 4) expansion of peer support specialist services; and 5) outreach in macomb county to implement treatment.

Activity 3

The purpose of healthy aging services is to support older adults in making choices that promote independence, safety, and physical and emotional well-being, as well as to achieve a satisfying quality of life for themselves, their families, and their communities. During the year ended september 30, 2013, healthy aging services provided services to over 3,000 seniors who needed financial aid for items such as housing emergencies, medication, tranportation, food, therapy, medical equipment, and utilities. The organization continues to maintain meaningful partnerships that help provide financial assistance to seniors with basic needs. Major accomplishments included: 1) expansion of benefits access work 2) implementation of a chronic disease self-management program in oakland and macomb counties; 3) completion of a federal grant providing substance use disorder services and hiv/aids prevention to older women of color; 4) financial stability services to improve self-sufficiency; and 5) another successful prescription drug take-back day in partnership with the detroit police department.
