“Glen Echo Pottery has established the Kathy Darby Community Outreach Fund, a Board Designated Fund, to further Kathy Darbys two great passions her love of pottery and her desire to share that love through teaching youth and adults. The Fund will provide financial support and encouragement to needy new and beginning potters and will offer opportunities to open up the world of ceramics to youth who may not otherwise be exposed to it. The Fund will achieve its goals through activities such as: -Funding educational opportunities for low-income youth to introduce them to the world of pottery. -Funding a program in which Glen Echo potters visit schools or other sites in the community to demonstrate the making of pottery, particularly in low-income communities. -Funding the Glen Echo Pottery tuition of a young adult who shows promise but may not be able to afford the tuition to continue in pottery. -Funding the Glen Echo Pottery tuition of a beginner who shows the talent and enthusiasm for pottery but may not be able to afford the tuition to continue. -Funding an intern program for one of the Glen Echo young adult potters, providing instruction on the adult level and hands-on opportunities to support the young adult instructor.”

“Accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America require management of an organization to evaluate income tax positions taken and recognize an income tax liability if the organization has taken an uncertain tax position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by the Internal Revenue Service. Management has evaluated the income tax positions taken by Glen Echo and concluded that as of December 31, 2018 there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability in the financial statements. Glen Echo is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits in progress for any tax periods. Management believes that Glen Echo is no longer subject to income tax examinations for years prior to 2015.”
