Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The purposes of the american baseball coaches association include: to promote excellence in the coaching of baseball. To promote all aspects of the game of amateur baseball. To promote the game of baseball, especially within the mission of educational institutions. To foster national and international amateur sports competition in the sport of baseball. To promote and develop leadership in baseball within educational institutions and in the various amateur baseball organizations. To assist in the educational development of amateur baseball coaches. To assist in the growth and development of baseball in cooperation with organizations with similar goals. To disseminate educational baseball information to members and allied groups as necessary. To engage in baseball-related activities as determined by the represented membership. To accomplish the foregoing for educational, non-profit purposes in accordance with the internal revenue code(s) 501(c)(3).

Major Activities

Activity 2
Awards to members: abca awards include the hall of fame; lefty gomez award; ethics in coaching award; honor awards; meritorious service awards; assistant baseball coach awards; field maintenance and field maintenance scholorship awards; century club awards; 25-year coaching awards; all-american teams; player of the year awards; gold glove awards; coaches of the year awards; regional coaches of the year awards; and lifetime membership awards. The abca also has a hall of fame facility in which to promote the abca.
Activity 3
Publications and website: "covering all basis" triannual newsletter is mailed to members, keeping them informed of baseball news, as well as on the abca website, including ncaa, naia, junior college, and high school legislation; federal and state government issues; college/pro issues; conference, and school issues. Abca/nstep films and printed materials provide important information to members regarding tobacco cessation. (continued) the abca website is a helpful, informative tool to coaches which google rates as 7 on a scale of 1 being lowest to 10 being highest. From 5/1/11 to 4/30/12, the abca received 751,373 page impression or "hits" for an average of 62,614 page impressions or "hits" per month. The "abca membership directory" on the website keeps members further informed of baseball resources. The "coaching digest", convention dvd's, the website library, the abca/human kinetics books and videos, all provide coaching enhancement materials. The "abca press box" keeps coaches involved with weekly baseball issues. Other information available on the abca website include: convention and membership registration; job postings; scheduling; information on all awards; latest headlines from around baseball; membership discussion forums; exhibit information; committee and membership listings; polls and scores; legislative issues; plus many other services to our members. The abca provides a grant, and the coaches contribute articles to "collegiate baseball newspaper". Twice a year (april and october), through the abca's grant, "collegiate baseball" distributes approximately 20,000 newpapers across the nation, mainly to high school and college baseball coaches. Without this grant, cbn could not reach this large audience. The abca receives one page in every issue throughout the year to promote their organization, such as convention or membership ads and articles of current interest. Cbn also publishes the abca all-american teams, from college, junior college, and high school, and have extensive coverage of the annual abca convention, complete with photo pages, plus other information throughout the year.

(CONT) ABCA PROGRAMS WHICH ASSIST IN THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION OF EDUCATING AMATEUR COACHES INCLUDE:(1) AN ANNUAL CONVENTION OF NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL STATURE HELD THROUGHOUT THE CONTRY, WHICH INCLUDES THE WORLD'S LARGEST BASEBALL COACHING CLINIC;(2) VARIOUS AWARD PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE U.S. TO HONOR THE SUCCESS AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF MEMBERS, AS WELL AS STUDENT-ATHLETES IN COLLEGE, JUNIOR COLLEGE, AND HIGH SCHOOL; AND (3)VARIOUS PUBLICATIONS ALONG WITH A HIGHLY RATED WEBSITE BASED ON LONGEVITY, STABILITY, AND POPULARITY, AS WELL AS THE NUMBER OF USEFUL LINKS TO FURTHER EDUCATE ITS MEMBERS.
