| IRS990/Activity2/Description | 0 | The Foundation Funded the Arabella House Scholarship Program to provide "scholarship beds" for residents of Arabella, a group home for women and girls who are recovering from eating disorders. Arabella is a transitional step for women and girls who've been treated for eating disorders at Linden Oaks at Edward. Life at Arabella helps participants establish and maintain healthy behaviors before returning to home, school and work. A "scholarship bed" pays for up to six weeks of residence at Arabella for women and girls who could not otherwise afford the care. 47 women were served in calendar year 2010. Short term goals include increasing census to capacity, which varies as length of stay may be between 4 weeks to 6 months. An average length of stay is 4-6 weeks, setting a full capacity goal of 70-80 patients. Longer term goals include increasing capacity in a larger facility or with a second house and establishing a half-way house for patients who, upon discharge, would have no safe home to return to and no means of financial support. This program would provide shelter, job training and job search skills, etc. |

| IRS990/Activity3/Description | 0 | The Nursing Professional Development Fund is a vehicle for advancing their practice through attendance at on-site programs and off-site conferences and seminars and in-house educational sessions. We continue to focus on increasing the number of nurses certified in their area of expertise. Research suggests that certification enhances patient care and improves outcomes. With the new Illinois Nurse Practice Act, our 1,200 Edward Hospital nurses are now required to earn 20 contact hours every two years for licensure. This has increased nurse requests to participate in continuing education activities and has also increased attendance at our internal programs. The Nursing Professional Development Fund provided funds for nurses to attend 106 conferences and seminars in 2010. |

A total of 80 clients were served in calendar year 2010. Short term objectives include increasing census through re-education of referring agencies and law enforcement. Constant re-training is needed because of staff turnover at these agencies. Longer term objectives include increasing the clinic availability as currently there is one clinic day per week for appointments plus emergency room visits. There will also be an exam room added in the planned remodeling of the Pediatrics area and this will be used as needed to cross-train pediatric nurses to work with sexual abuse cases. |
