Activity 2

Education: In addition to other programs, Lookingglass' Studio Class and Summer Camp programs teach a story-centric theatre arts education that emphasizes collaboration, invention and transformation, while preparing students to perform with skill and confidence. With programs for students from ages 18 months to 18 years, sequential classes and workshops provide an engaging progression for students to develop theatre skills while experiencing and creating stories from a variety of genres and sources. Scholarship support is provided for talented low-income students.

Activity 3

Community programs: through in-school residency programs, lookingglass provides underserved students with unique and engaging arts education opportunities that increase confidence and academic motivation. Lookingglass teaching artists collaborate with teachers and principals to establish goals, curricula and evaluation methods for each program, referencing illinois state goals and standards and the chicago guide for teaching and learning in the arts. Residencies are held in a broad range of schools, serving students of many ethnicities, special needs, and socio-economic backgrounds. In addition to designing programs that fit limited budgets, lookingglass aids schools in locating outside sources of financial support and subsidizes a portion of each program offered. Lookingglass' community programs directly serviced approximately 3,350 chicago-area students, teachers, at-risk populations and people with disabilities. Lookingglass held residencies at 18 chicago-area schools and community centers, 70% of which (14) were provided to low-income, traditionally underserved students.
