IRS990/Description0NORTHWEST COMMUNITY DAY SURGERY CENTER, INC. (DAY SURGERY CENTER) IS THE LARGEST MULTISPECIALTY AMBULATORY SURGERY CENTER IN ILLINOIS. DAY SURGERY CENTER IS ACCREDITED BY THE JOINT COMMISSION AND LICENSED BY THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH. THE FACILITY OFFERS TEN STATE OF THE ART SURGICAL SUITES, PRIVATE RECOVERY BAYS AND A FULL-SERVICE WAITING ROOM WITH A CHILDREN'S AREA AND WIRELESS INTERNET CONNECTION FOR PERSONAL COMPUTER USE. EIGHT THOUSAND OUTPATIENT SURGERY CASES ARE PERFORMED ANNUALLY AT DAY SURGERY CENTER: ORTHOPEDICS - 30%, OPHTHALMOLOGY - 22%, GYNECOLOGY - 21%, GENERAL - 16%, ENT - 7% AND OTHER - 4%. THE PATIENT POPULATION IS COMPRISED OF PEOPLE FROM ALL AGE GROUPS. THE MAJORITY OF PROCEDURES ARE PERFORMED UTILIZING MINIMALLY INVASIVE TECHNIQUES WHICH PROMOTE SHORTENED RECOVERY TIME AND A QUICKER HEALING PROCESS. THE ANESTHESIOLOGISTS AND STAFF RNS SUPPORT A SUCCESSFUL POST-OPERATIVE PAIN MANAGEMENT PERINEURAL BLOCK (PNB) PROGRAM. THE GOAL OF THE PNB IS TO DECREASE THE AMOUNT OF REQUIRED ANESTHETIC MEDICATIONS AND TO DECREASE THE AMOUNT OF POST-OPERATIVE NARCOTICS ADMINISTERED. CONTROL OF POST-OPERATIVE PAIN DECREASES THE PATIENT'S LIKELIHOOD OF DEVELOPING POST-OPERATIVE NAUSEA AND VOMITING AND/OR SEVERE PAIN WHICH PROMOTES PATIENT SATISFACTION AND HEALING. DAY SURGERY CENTER STAFF PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY HEALTHCARE TO THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS THEY SERVE. CREDENTIALED PHYSICIANS ARE ALL BOARD CERTIFIED OR BOARD ELIGIBLE. ALL RNS ARE ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT (ACLS) CERTIFIED AND ALL RECOVERY ROOM RNS ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO BE PALS CERTIFIED. DSC has an established charity care/financial assistance program which provides free or discounted services to patients who have demonstrated an inability to pay. For fiscal year 2012, the estimated cost of charity care provided under this policy was $99,980. The estimated difference between the cost of services provided to Medicare and Medicaid patients and the reimbursement from these government programs is also monitored. During 2012, this unreimbursed cost was $661,784. Dsc IS A SUBSIDIARY ENTITY OF NCH. NCH WAS ESTABLISHED TO OWN, OPERATE, CONTROL, AND OTHERWISE COORDINATE THE DELIVERY OF HEALTHCARE WITHIN THE SERVICE AREA OF NORTHWEST COMMUNITY HOSPITAL (HOSPITAL) AND COORDINATE THE ACTIVITIES OF THE VARIOUS CORPORATIONS AFFILIATED WITH NCH. SUBSIDIARIES OF NCH INCLUDE HOSPITAL, NORTHWEST COMMUNITY HOSPITAL FOUNDATION (FOUNDATION) AND DAY SURGERY CENTER, WHICH ARE NOT-FOR-PROFIT ENTITIES; NORTHWEST COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES, INC., WHICH OWNS AND OPERATES THE NCH MEDICAL GROUP, A MULTI-SPECIALTY PHYSICIAN PRACTICE THAT WAS ESTABLISHED IN 2010 AND NPC-CYBERKNIFE, LLC, WHICH ARE TAXABLE ENTITIES; AND NCH CASUALTY INSURANCE SPC LIMITED (NCHCI), A CAYMAN ISLANDS CORPORATION.
