Financial Statement Notes

Part X, Line 2:

The Corporation is a not-for-profit organization, as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is exempt from Federal income taxes on related income under Section 501(a) of the Code. In addition, contributions to the Corporation qualify for the charitable contribution deduction under Section 170(b)(1)(A) and the Corporation has been classified as an organization other than a private foundation under Section 509(a)(2). Accordingly, the accompanying financial statements reflect no provision for income tax. Management evaluated the Corporation's tax positions in accordance with standards on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. Tax positions for the open tax years as of June 30, 2018, were reviewed, and it was determined that no provision for uncertain tax positions is required. In addition, management is not aware of any matter which would cause the Corporation to lose its tax-exempt status.

IRS990/Desc0NAMI Illinois is the primary entity to certify state trainers for all NAMI mental health signature programs and support groups. The certified trainers train prospective teachers/facilitators from local NAMI affiliates, and provide them additional resources and technical assistance. NAMI Illinois manages statewide programs such as the recent 2016 training of 11,600 Illinois Department of Corrections employees in mental health basics and skills required for working with the mentally ill in the prison population. In addition, NAMI Illinois provides capacity building, membership engagement and retention, marketing and communication, and NAMI National policy adherence to the 21 affiliates located across Illinois. We provide help especially to smaller affiliates and rural affiliates with fewer resources and less organizational capacity, and partner with nearby state NAMI organizations to address needs where we can help each other. NAMI Illinois has three overarching goals: 1) Advocate-to bring the needs of persons with mental illness and their families to the attention of legislators, service providers, medical staff, and the general public, while protecting the rights of persons living with mental illness and pressing for added community support services; 2) Support-to focus on family-to-family and consumer-to-consumer support and interaction through support group meetings, and peer-based recovery support; 3) Educate-to provide training and educational materials for families, persons with mental illness and professionals. NAMI Illinois offers programs and services without charge by underwriting the cost through fund raising, which experience has proven to be important to ensure access. The most accessed peer support training programs include: 1) Family to Family, a 12-week course for family caregivers of adult individuals with severe mental illnesses. 2) NAMI Basics for Parents, a 6-week educational course for parents/caregivers of school age children - grade through high school. and 3) Peer-to-Peer, a 10-week course taught by trained mentors and people living with mental illness to provide a unique, experiential learning program for people with any serious mental illness who are interested in establishing and maintaining their wellness and recovery. In addition to training programs, NAMI Illinois provides on-going peer support including: Connection Recovery Support Groups (for adults recovering from mental illnesses who can talk with others to share coping strategies and insights in an encouraging and supportive environment), family support groups, and parent support groups. Another program is Ending the Silence -- a free classroom presentation that educates students on the signs and symptoms of mental illness, the importance of early detection and treatment, and how to help themselves or their friends. Some highlights of NAMI Illinois accomplishments this past year: NAMI Signature programs served over 35,999 individuals across the state of Illinois. The two key signature programs experienced growth in persons served. The number of participants served in the Family to Family program in Illinois increased by 22% from FY17 to FY18 and participants in the Family Support Group increased by 39% from FY17 to FY18.Trained 81 new teachers and facilitators for NAMI Family to Family, NAMI Basics, NAMI Connection, NAMI Family Support Group, NAMI In Our Own Voice and other NAMI Signature Programs. Manage the supply of state trainers in various NAMI signature programs by recruiting and sending qualified individuals to NAMI training in Arlington, VA, as needed.Strengthened the network of 21 local NAMI affiliates by mentoring them through the NAMI Re-Affiliation process, a best-practices and standards-based required program. By fiscal-year-end 2018 33% of NAMI Illinois affiliates have met this standard, and the remaining affiliates are on target to meet the standard by the required date.Maintained the www.namiillinois.org website with a state map

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0The Corporation is a not-for-profit organization, as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is exempt from Federal income taxes on related income under Section 501(a) of the Code.
