The policy of the board defines areas in which conflict can occur and it clearly states that the existence of any of the interest under question must be disclosed by any transaction that is consummated. It is the continuing responsibility of board, officers and management employees to scrutinize their transactions and outside business interests and relationships for potential conflict and to immediately make such disclosures.

Financial Statement Notes

Part X, Line 2:

The Organization is a not-for-profit organization, as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is exempt from Federal income taxes on related income under Section 501(a) of the Code. In addition, contributions to the Organization qualify for the charitable contribution deduction under Section 170(b)(1)(A) and the Organization has been classified as an organization other than a private foundation under Section 509(a)(2). Accordingly, the accompanying financial statements reflect no provision for income tax. Management evaluated the Organization's tax positions in accordance with standards on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes and concluded that there is no uncertain tax position required to be recorded or disclosed in the financial statements. In addition, management is not aware of any matter which would cause the Organization to lose its tax-exempt status.

IRS990/Desc0NAMI Illinois held key support and educational program trainings to train teachers and facilitators on NAMI Signature Programs. These trainings enable local affiliate leaders to teach/facilitate NAMI programs in communities throughout Illinois. NAMI Illinois offers the following education programs:Family-to-Family is a free, 12-week course for families, partners and friends of individuals with serious mental illness. NAMI Basics is a free, 6 week, peer-directed education program developed specifically for parents and other family caregivers of children and adolescents who have either been diagnosed with serious mental illness/serious emotional disturbance or who are experiencing symptoms but have not yet been diagnosed. Peer-to-Peer is a free, 10-week, peer led recovery education course open to any person with a serious mental illness. Peer-to-Peer emphasizes recovery from mental illness as a feasible, supportable goal and challenges the stigma often wrongly associated with mental illness.Support groups offered by NAMI Illinois include:NAMI Family Support Group is a free, local meeting of caregivers of individuals with a mental illness where family members can talk frankly about their challenges and help one another through their learned wisdom. Meetings are facilitated by trained NAMI members. NAMI Connections is a free, weekly 90 minute recovery support group for people living with mental illness where people learn from one another's experiences, share coping strategies and offer mutual encouragement and understanding. All groups are facilitated by peers living in recovery. Presentations Include:In Our Own Voice (IOOV) is an interactive recovery education program presented by trained individuals living with mental illness to inform audiences, professionals and other peers about the reality of living with mental illness and the high potential for recovery. It teaches community audiences about their experiences with brain disorders, treatment and recovery. Ending the Silence (ETS) is an in-school presentation about mental health designed for high school students for students to learn about mental illness from family members and individuals living with mental illness themselves. It is a toolkit of practical information offered free of cost to schools. It is led by a team of trained presenters including a young adult living in recovery from mental illness and includes presenter stories, educational slides, videos and discussion.Conferences include the annual educational State Conference during which attendees may choose from several breakout sessions addressing topics such as healthcare and affiliate development.Piecing it All Together (PIAT) South held its 11th annual conference at Southern Illinois University. This conference is targeted to parents/caregivers of children and adolescents who are showing signs and symptoms of mental illnesses and professionals who work with them. Piecing it All Together (PIAT) North held its first conference facilitated by NAMI Illinois in the current fiscal year. It was hosted by the Metro Suburban Affiliate located in Oak Park, Illinois. Due to its success PIAT North plans to offer the conference again next year.

In addition, contributions to the Organization qualify for the charitable contribution deduction under Section 170(b)(1)(A) and the Organization has been classified as an organization other than a private foundation under Section 509(a)(2). Accordingly, the accompanying financial statements reflect no provision for income tax. Management evaluated the Organization's tax positions in accordance with standards on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes and concluded that there is no uncertain tax position required to be recorded or disclosed in the financial statements. In addition, management is not aware of any matter which would cause the Organization to lose its tax-exempt status.
