Ageoptions contracts with ten (10) elder abuse provider agencies in suburban cook county that investigate and intervene in cases of possible elder abuse. In illinois the elder abuse and neglect program is based on an advocacy model and is a victim guided process that respects a victims right to self-determination. Ageoptions monitors the local agencies annually to ensure compliance with the illinois department on aging policies and procedures. Ageoptions provides technical assistance to elder abuse supervisors and case workers, and conducts regular outreach to professionals and the public on issues related to elder abuse, neglect and exploitation. In state fiscal year 2011, there were 1,687 cases in suburban cook county alone. It is estimated that for every report of elder abuse there are ten more that go unreported. Financial exploitation is the most reported form of abuse and accounts for over 50.5% of all cases.

Activity 3

Ageoptions, the area agency on aging of suburban cook county, administers the title v senior community service employment program (scsep). Scsep helps people who are age 55 or older with limited financial resources by providing on-the-job training assignments. Ageoptions has a grant from the illinois department on aging to fund training assignments at local community service agencies for up to 20 hours per week at a rate of pay of $8.25 per hour. All of our participants are looking for more permanent employment using the skills they learned in the program. Host agencies can develop and train individuals in a variety of areas including clerical, food service, and maintenance and custodial. In fy2011 title v participants completed 57,525 hours of paid training at community organizations, 79% of scsep participants have family income at or below the federal poverty guideline and 73% of scsep participants were female.
