The governing body delegates broad authority to an executive committee to conduct all affairs of the governing body in between board meetings. The executive committee is composed of all board officers and committee chairs.

The College has one class of members. The members of the College have the right to nominate and elect those who will serve on the Board of Trustees. To be a member a person needs to subscribe to the purpose and basis of the College as set forth in its bylaws, be twenty-one years of age, and contribute annually a sum which shall be fixed from time to time by the Board of Trustees.

The College retains a CPA firm to prepare form 990 based on information provided by the College. Upon receipt of the 990 from the CPA firm, it is reviewed in detail by the Controller, CFO, and President and with the Finance and Audit committee trustees. Before it is filed, the 990 is provided to all trustees.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12C

The College annually distributes the conflict of interest policy to trustees and officers and requires a response with signature. Responses are recorded and potential conflicts are noted and brought to the attention of the officers of the Board of Trustees, and the senior management team. Should any potential conflicts of interest be disclosed, the board member or officer would be asked to refrain from participation in any deliberation or decision with regard to matters affected by the relationship.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15

For the President and CFO positions, the Executive Committee of the board annually evaluates performance against goals, reviews benchmark compensation and benefits data and decides upon any changes. The Executive Committee sets the compensation for both positions. The processes and decisions are recorded in meeting minutes.

The vast majority of the endowment supports the educational mission of the College by providing funds for scholarships. A small portion of endowment assets provide funds for other expenditures. Part V, Line 1, columns (b) - (e): The prior year amounts have been restated to reflect the changes in the endowment funds made on the audited financial statements.

Part X, Line 2:

The financial statement effects of a tax position taken or expected to be taken are recognized in the financial statements when it is more likely than not, based on the technical merits, that the position will be sustained upon examination. Interest and penalties, if any, are included in expenses in the statements of activities. As of June 30, 2017, the College had no uncertain tax positions that qualify for recognition or disclosure in the financial statements. The College files information tax returns in the U.S. The College is generally no longer subject to U.S. Federal examinations by tax authorities for years before 2014.

IRS990/Desc0Traditional Undergraduate, Adult Studies and Graduate Programs: Trinity offers classroom instruction, field experience and internships, service-learning, and other activities to provide a four-year, liberal arts education in 70+ programs of study, including, art, business, communications, education, mathematics, nursing, theology, and science. Several pre-professional programs are also offered, including pre-law and pre-med. Trinity offers both domestic and international off campus programs. Trinity's proximity to downtown Chicago provides access to internships, cultural experiences, and career and service opportunities. The Chicago Semester program enables students to gain real-world experience through living and working in the city for an entire semester. Students gain hands-on learning through the global opportunities to study abroad for a semester in countries worldwide. Trinity's adult studies program is a non-traditional program serving adults age 23 and older and offering accelerated degree completion programs in business and education as well as certification and endorsement programs. Graduate studies offers master's degrees in select programs. Audio-visual aids to instruction, library services for students and for research, computer services for students, and the academic dean's office that develops curriculums and maintains academic excellence for a campus of around 1,200.
