Mission

The mission of Rush is to improve the health of the individuals and diverse communities we serve through the integration of outstanding patient care, education, research and community partnerships.

The mission of Rush University Medical Center is to provide the very best care for our patients. Our education and research endeavors, community service programs and relationships with other hospitals are dedicated to enhancing excellence in patient care for the diverse communities of the Chicago area now and in the future. The true impact of our mission isn't only visible within the boundaries of our Medical Center campus. We also see our mission take shape in the community health clinics, outreach and mentoring programs, and countless other community-based initiatives led by doctors, nurses, students and others at Rush.

New By-Law Section 15: A Trustee may be removed, with or without cause. A Trustee may submit a request to remove a Trustee to the Chairman or a Vice Chairman of the Board. The Chairman or Vice Chairman will forward such recommendation to the Nominations and Governance Committee for consideration, and, following its review, the Nominations and Governance Committee shall forward its recommendation to the Executive Committee for consideration. In the event the Executive Committee recommends removal of a Trustee, the recommendation shall go to the Board for vote. A Trustee may be formally removed by the affirmative vote of a majority of the Trustees then in office, present, and voting at a meeting of the Trustees at which a quorum is present. If the vote for the removal of a Trustee is to take place at a special meeting called pursuant to Article V, Section 6 of these Bylaws, written notice of the proposed removal must be prepared and delivered to all Trustees pursuant to Article V, Section 7, no fewer than twenty (20) days prior to the special meeting. Such notice must both include the purpose of the meeting (i.e., Removal of Trustee) and list the Trustee or Trustees sought to be removed.

IRS990/Desc0Health Care: Rush University Medical Center ("Rush") is an academic medical center that brings together excellence in clinical care and research to address major health problems. Rush's new 376-bed hospital building is part of the Medical Center's major renovation of its campus and is the largest new health care project in the world to be LEED Gold certified. In FY15, patient care was provided to over 32,000 inpatients, and the emergency room that handled 68,000 visits. Rush offers various financial assistance programs to thousands of patients. A unique combination of research and patient care in FY15 has earned Rush national rankings in 7 of 16 specialty areas. This accomplishment is presented in U.S. News & World Report's 2015-16 America's Best Hospitals issue. Our nurses are at the forefront of our efforts to provide quality care, receiving the four-year Magnet status (the highest honor in nursing) three consecutive times.
