Activity 2

Care of Buildings and Grounds The CZS maintains over 214 acres of land and 72 buildings to exhibit over 2,500 animals. Guests see examples of our environmentally sound policies throughout the Zoo grounds including energy efficient cooling systems, plentiful recycling containers and clean burning natural gas vehicles.

Activity 3

Visitor Services Brookfield Zoo served over 2.1 million visitors in 2011, providing them with transportation, shops and restaurants. In addition to motorized, narrated educational tours throughout the park, the Zoo offers strollers, wheelchairs, wagons, etc. to help visitors have a more enjoyable visit. The shops make available goods which promote an interest in and understanding of the natural world and an awareness of how people around the world co-exist with the animals and the ecosystems where they live, and how choices made by humans impact the animals and the environment. The restaurants allow our visitors to stay in the park for lunch and expand the time they can enjoy the park. Visitor Services works closely with educators and designers to develop food packaging programs and select products which convey education and conservation related messages. Visitor Services also provides opportunities for families, businesses, senior groups, social clubs, etc. to hold special outings at the park where they receive admission, special tours and interaction with zoo staff.
