Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To build a fair and just food system.

The Agricultural Justice Project (AJP) works to transform the existing agricultural system into one based on empowerment, justice and fairness for all who labor from farm to retail. AJP maintains the standards for the Food Justice Certified (FJC) program, a domestic fair trade certification that is held as the gold standard for North America. Our programmatic work includes outreach and education to raise awareness of the disparities and injustice in the food system; supporting and partnering with third-party certifiers and worker organizations that carry out the certification and inspection process for the FJC program; and promoting and recruiting existing and new food businesses and farms to certify to the FJC standards. Our reach as an organization spans across the United States and into Canada with FJC certified product on store shelves, and awareness raising and education occurring through workshops, meetings, presentations, and events both nationally and internationally.
