Mission and Program Overview

Mission

We protect civilians in violent conflicts through unarmed strategies. We build peace side by side with local communities. We advocate for the wider adoption of these approaches to safeguard human lives and dignity. We envision a worldwide culture of peace in which conflicts within and between communities and countries are managed through nonviolent means.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Advocacy: np advanced and increased the understanding of and policy support for unarmed civilian peacekeeping (ucp) among the united nations at un briefings and missions to the un. Np advocated for the inclusion of ucp in the un secretary generals report to the security council debate on protection of civilians. Np made presentations to organizations to mainstream the concept of ucp. Additionally, np increased its exposure and that of ucp through high-profile media channels such as a public broadcasting service (pbs) documentary. Np coordinated with similar organizations to delineate best practices of ucp.
Activity 3
Outreach: np continues to make presentations by staff and volunteers at public events, civic organizations, churches, schools, and at the non-governmental organization (ngo) parallel events at the united nations commission on the status of women. A nonviolent peaceforce in a box has been developed so that an expanded group of presenters will have a ready-made program to present.
