Mission

Catholic Charities Bloomington is committed to enhancing the availability of quality mental health services in the communities it serves. We do this through the delivery of professional mental health education and counseling on a sliding fee scale and through advocacy for affordable, easily accessible community mental health services. We serve all residents of the counties of the Bloomington Deanery of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis: Brown, Lawrence, Morgan, Monroe, Orange and Owen Counties. Becky's Place, a program of Catholic Charities Bloomington is designed to "provide shelter and create hope" for women and children who are experiencing homelessness and moving toward a life of self-sufficiency.

IRS990/Desc0Catholic Charities Bloomington Counseling Services: Services include individual, couple and family counseling for all ages and school based counseling at two schools. From July 2015 to June 2016 the counseling program provided 6,322 mental health sessions, approximately 520 sessions per month. Fairview Elementary School: This program seeks to stabilize student performance, increase attendance, improve learning capacity, and improve family functioning by providing mental health services in a struggling school. This program works with students identified with emotional and/or behavioral deficits. 86% of the Fairview student population qualify for the free/reduced lunch program. 25 students were served by the therapists with the following results: 78% of student demonstrated growth in reading, 80% overall improvement in performance, and 42% of teachers reported improvement in the student behavioral and emotional functioning in the classroom. Integrated Healthcare Program: Therapists provide 20 hours of assessments in all of the pediatrician's offices in Bloomington every week. These assessments result in providing guidance, resources, referrals to community resources, and to link the therapist with the expertise, correct insurance, and availability to provide mental health treatment. The program minimizes stigma while allowing therapists to collaborate with the physicians on patient care. Becky's Place: A therapist spends 6 hours a week providing mental health counseling to our homeless shelter for women and children. Play Therapy: Through a Community Foundation Grant, we have trained our staff to provide play therapy to young children. We are one of the only agencies in town that provides this service to kids with Medicaid. Statistics were kept from February 1 to December 1 of 2016, that showed that 110 children were provided this service, 86% being very young children; under the age of 8, 38% are female and 68% are male. This service has grown 200% since January 1, 2016.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Becky's Place is designed to "provide shelter and create hope" for women and children who are experiencing homelessness and moving toward a life of self-sufficiency. Becky's Place offers several services to its residents. Counseling and case management are mandatory for all residents . Nutrition classes, budgeting classes, support group, health insurance navigator, and weekly house meetings are also provided. Becky's Place provides bus tokens, computer access, phone access, three meals per day, clothing/shoes, hygiene items and occasional transportation to its residents. From July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016, Becky's Place served 61 women and 34 children. 53 women and children stayed an average of 30 days or less, 13 women and children stayed for 31-60 days and 29 women and children stayed longer than 60 days. 31 of the women and children exited in to permanent housing, 22 women and children were reunited with family or friends and 27 exited to other places including foster care, hospital, psychiatric facility, substance abuse facility, and other emergency shelter.
