Hatch innovation works to enable citizen innovators to launch enterprises that improve communities, locally and globally. The organization has been operating programs designed to increase the capacity of individuals and enterprise to solve community problems. Our approach has been to cultivate an "innovation ecosystem" in which caange leasders can flourish in any community. This framework continues to drive our programs: 1) teach the change maker inside each of us; 2) create a home for community innovators to find what they need; 3) create new tools that grow community captal; 4) build the ecosystem for citizen-led change.

In 2012, we shifted to exploring a format that would allow us to dig deeper into topics that were of high interest in both our monthly forums and ReVisioning Value (ReVV) conference. The result "Re:Forums", exploring main themes across fewer events that go deeper. We bring in keynotes and expert panels in the evening, and follow it up the next day with workshops. In 2012, we held three major Re:Forums focused on growing community capital and Jump-starting Community Investing: Exploring the Tools was in June, Growing Community Investors in September, and Launching Impact Enterprises in November. We serviced over three hundred people in all events and workshops, and helped launch the only direct public offering in Oregon, and spawned $145,000 in local investing deals. |

Hatch is a space for visionaries and realists who are working for a better world. It is a place where an entrepreneurial community starts and scales local and social enterprises that improve communities. In 2012 the Hatch team continued to look at appropriate spaces for the Hatch to launch. We pursued two buildings, offering various bids on both, based on advice from experts in the field and our own criteria. We were outbid on both, and so the search continues. In preparation for Hatch launch, we continued to build programs to provide critical infrastructure for social enterprise. One such program is "The Parts Department", where key CDFIs, law firms, consultants, and other experts are tenants in Hatch for one day a month, offering open office hours and ongoing workshops. Other Hatch programs will offer mentorship consulting, and peer support to entrepreneurs in a LaunchLab Incubator. We continue to look for a space that will meet our criteria: offices, conference room, fireboxes, educational spaces - kitchen, indoor garden, classroom and an event space. |

Our goal is to bolster local economies by connecting the dots between socially-minded investors and locally-owned businesses. ChangeXchange NW enables communities to invest in themselves. In 2012, ChangeXchange NW was underway, working with key partners like Mission Markets and Cutting Edge Capital to develop the right place-based approach. We chose to focus only in the NW, building a regional network to strengthen local economies. We engaged a design firm and began designing the Changexchangenw web site, and developed workshops such as "How to be a Smart Local Investor", "How to Develop Social Metrics for your Enterprise" and "What Do Impact Investors Want?". We built a national team of experts like Amy Cortese and Michael Shuman. We developed a program that fosters local understanding about investing, crowdfunding, and impact enterprises. We contracted with Mission Markets to license their on-line technology in preparation for the launch of ChangeXchange NW in 2013. |
