Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To promote and advance the civic, economic, and cultural growth of greater cleveland as a place to live, work, and conduct business.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Attraction, retention, & expansion (clev+): to create jobs and investment through the retention and growth of existing companies and by attracting targeted industries to the region. Launched in 2007 by the greater cleveland partnership (gcp), team neo and positively cleveland, (greater cleveland convention and visitors bureau), the cleveland plus marketing alliance campaign has played a key role in attracting more than 4,800 new jobs and nearly $173 million of new annual payroll to northeast ohio. It also has increased positive national coverage by 37 percent, and garnered a 36 percent share of ohio's tourism revenue, more than any other region in the state. To help communicate the regions many successes, cleveland plus launched, www.theplus.us, a site devoted to sharing northeast ohio's good news and information.
Activity 3
Economic inclusion (accelerator & inclusion): the commission on economic inclusion drives the greater cleveland partnership's efforts to ensure full participation of minority individuals and businesses in the region's economy. The commission focuses on achieving measurable, demonstrated success through efforts focused on: (1) providing inclusion-change management tools and resources to 102 corporate members; and (2) securing business opportunities for minority business enterprises (mbes) and assisting those businesses with building capability. To support the diversity and inclusion goals of our 100+ member employers, the commission provided several products and services, including the following: (a) the commission, along with six partner organizations, was selected to operate the minority business development agency (mbda) cleveland business center, one of 40 mbda centers located throughout the u.s. The new center, which is housed at the offices of the greater cleveland partnership, will support minority-owned businesses (mbes) throughout ohio. Its first-year results for mbes were: 133 jobs created and $ 18.7 million generated in new revenue. (b) the minority business accelerator 2.5+, with funding from the fund for our economic future and the cleveland foundation, closed a total of 155 deals valued at $148 million between april 2008, when the first deal was announced, and december 2011. These results included over 272 jobs created and over 1.2 billion in business opportunities identified over the past three years. (c) the commission joined with the presidents' council to re-launch the boardroom-to-boardroom program, which provides business management and consulting services to african american and other minority-owned enterprises (mbes) with sessions held for 2 minority owned companies (one in april, 2011 and one in february, 2012). Pro bono consulting services were provided by commission members, ernst & young and pricewaterhousecoopers. The program connects minority executives with ceos and other executives from leading corporations to gain feedback on their business challenges and plans. (d) more than 200 diversity professionals attended the third diversity professionals conference in august, with keynote speaker, doug harris, ceo, the kaleidoscope group, chicago. The commission held 3 additional quarterly morning meetings each attended by 50-60 member diversity professionals. (e) more than 70 commission-member ceos and senior-level diversity and hr professionals attended the annual ceo breakfast briefing with keynote speaker robert e. (bob) moritz, chairman and senior partner of pricewaterhousecoopers llp. The event also included interactive sessions designed to secure participants' input into the commission's agenda. (f) the commission provides benchmark data for its members' use in their diversity and inclusion planning. In 2011, the commission administered its 10th annual employers survey on diversity culminating in the publication of an in-depth survey analysis report. Each participating organization also received a confidential scorecard comparing its results to the averages for its industry sector.
