Mission
Health frontiers hf is an outreach of health professionals founded in 1991 and focused on outcomes in global health and child development that depend on a volunteer effort.
Major Activities
- Activity 2
- Children in disasters project - a year-and-a half after the haiti earthquake, we were able to close our disaster porject there and turn the health frontiers volunteer house over to the haitian pediatric society. In laos in 2012 we sponsored a five day interactive workshop on the special needs of children in disasters. We are scheduled in 2013 to support similar workshops in cleveland, ohio and tehran, iran. The health frontiers handbook, "how to help the children in humanitarian disasters" remains a staple in these courses and is published in several languages.

- Uganda project: this small project has roots in hiv-infected babies studied during the 1990's, who survived to school age, and then had their school fees paid by the investigator, our own dr. Olness, and friends. It has been broadened by a remarkable maryland family, the van wambeke family. Years ago, one of them had an unforgetable assignment in the hiv/aids children's ward at mulago hospital. Since then, the extended family has assembled an annual contribution for the neediest children at mulago, we wire these funds to the makerere johns hopkins research collaboration in kampala, where trusted friends guarantee they will be well spent where most needed. The van wambekes and health frontiers invite others to join us in helping some of the world's more helpless children.

WE HAVE EXPENDED OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH NEARBY KHON KAEN UNIVERSITY IN THAILAND TO ALLOW MORE OUTSTANDING GRADUATES TO TAKE SUBSPECIALTY TRAINGING. THIS YEAR WE WERE ABLE TO DOWNSIZE TO A SINGLE PROGRAM COORDINATOR IN LAOS, FILLED BY PEDIATRICIAN EMILY ESMAILI, NOW IN HER SECOND YEAR. SHE IS AIDED BY AN ENDLESS FLOW OF VISITING VOLUNTEER FACULTY.
