Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Cascade locks park association is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1989, our mission is to preserve, protect and promote the industrial, commercial, and cultural heritage of the cascade locks park along locks 10-16 of the ohio & erie canal. Our vision is to establish a unique destination serving as a northern gateway, linking the city of akron to the cuyahoga valley.

Cascade locks park association takes great pride in our stewardship of akron's historic cascade valley. The cascade locks park and mustill store are important and significant links to akron's history. Our museum and interpretive displays located throughout the park provide guests with insight on the role this area played in the birth of akron. Clpa serves to promote the cascade valley, we play an active role in neighborhood/community building, park and towpath welcome/informational center and adult/youth historical, cultural education. Projects that provide historical education, and projects that help in maintaining and improving the mustill and schumacher site are significant in moving our organization forward. Clpa's current project list includes new exhibits for the mustill museum, a memorial garden, walking bridge across lock 15 and a monarch waystation at the schumacher site. These projects will help enrich our guests experience in the cascade valley.
