“2022 service accomplishments anti-racism is a top priority for reaching heights. The staff and board commit to continuing to learn about structural racism, to seeking ways to show that we value and respect people who are different from us, and to paying close attention to our actions so we are prepared to make changes as needed. Representation of leaders of color is a focus. The longtime spelling bee team upper case representing case western reserve university was named friend of public education, and mojo world eats, owned by michael herschman was awarded outstanding community partner. In-school programming continued with many villages tutoring programs in 5 elementary schools and role model speakers throughout the year. Parent mentor, joy howard, continued her support to families of students with disabilities and workshops and enrichment experiences with the parent support group, ecag. Reaching heights created communication about public education and the ch-uh school district included monthly email newsletters, the rh website, and a campaign to encourage more families to sign up for infinite campus, an online tool for tracking attendance and assignments. The annual community spelling bee was in person again in the heights high auditorium and it was so much fun this community building and fundraising event ended with another win by dewey decimators representing the friends of the heights library. Support for the arts included the creation of the oxford elementary art & architecture tour video and an in-person and filmed art & architecture tour of cleveland heights high school. Music education continued with patti- jackson music lesson scholarships and the reaching heights summer music camp which was back in person with 68 campers.”
