“The endowment funds are intended to be used to aid in providing health care services and educational scholarships for the people of the western greater cleveland area. Form 990, schedule d, part v line 1e: endowment funds: other expenditures for facilities and programs: community west foundation holds events, the proceeds of which are for the benefit of fairview or luthern hospital programming. As a result, these amounts are recorded as a liability called assets held for others as opposed to temporarily restricted contributions. Amounts raised from these events and added to the assets held for others is $1,113,792.”
“The foundation is a qualifying organization under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (irc) and is exempt from federal income taxes on income, other than unrelated business income, under irc section 501(a). The foundation follows gaap for recognition of income taxes. The foundation's income tax filings are subject to audit by various taxing authorities. The earliest year that the foundation is subject to examination is the year ended december 31, 2010. In evaluating the foundation's activities, management believes its position of tax-exempt status is appropriate based on current facts and circumstances. Management has assessed that there are no activities unrelated to the purpose of the foundation and therefore, there is no tax to be recognized. As of december 31, 2013, the foundation had no uncertain tax positions that qualify for either recognition or disclosure in the accompanying financial statements. It is the foundation's policy to include any penalties and interest related to income taxes in management and general expense, however, the foundation currently has no penalties or interest related to income taxes.”

FUNDRAISING EXPENSES FOR EVENTS LIKE ANNUAL DINNERS, GOLF OUTINGS, THE ANNUAL "GIFT OF LIFE" GALA, ALONG WITH VARIOUS OTHER FUNDRAISING EVENTS, PUBLICATIONS AND NEWSLETTERS ACCOUNT FOR APPROXIMATELY 20% OF THE ORGANIZATION'S TOTAL EXPENSES.3) THE PUBLIC SUPPORT IS RECEIVED FROM A REPRESENTATIVE NUMBER OF PERSONS AND NOT A SINGLE FAMILY AS EVIDENCED BY SCHEDULE B.4) THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE ORGANIZATION REPRESENTS THE BOARD INTERESTS OF THE PUBLIC AS MEMBERS OF THE BOARD ARE A DIVERSIFIED GROUP OF COMMUNITY LEADERS WHO ARE COMMITTED TO PROMOTING AND SUPPORTING PHILANTHROPY AND ADVANCING THE HEALTH AND WELL BEING OF THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY. |
