ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

University settlement's (us) hunger center services is comprised of a choice model food pantry, a community meal, and a monthly mobile pantry. The pantry is open tuesday through friday, 11:30 am - 2:00 pm. Neighbors can visit once a month to select 3-5 days' worth of groceries. Through the pantry, families and individuals receive pantry staples, fresh bread, fresh produce, and various perishable and non-perishable items. Every tuesday evening, community residents can join us for a free, hot community meal. The first monday of the month, us hosts a mobile pantry through the greater cleveland food bank (gcfb). At each mobile pantry, us receives 10,000-12,000 lbs. Of fresh produce. During the last program year, the pantry served an average of 607 households- approximately 154,000 meals were distributed. The us community meal served over 7,700 hot meals to the community. Each week an average of 30 meals are prepared and delivered to the alexia and lourexis apartments in slavic village. Partnering with the gcfb allowed the hunger center to distribute just over 110,000 lbs. Of fresh produce to an average 114 households each month. Neo skill corps is an americorps programs which partners with 10 nonprofit organizations to provide financial literacy, adult literacy and workforce development to adults in northeast ohio. Members are assigned to partner agencies (host sites) to facilitate money management workshops addressing topics such as realist goal setting, credit management and setting a budget based on personal income and expenses. Participants have the option to request individual coaching to address personal issues and develop a plan to make adjustments where needed. Members also facilitate workforce development programs on topics such as digital literacy, customer service, manufacturing, culinary basics, health care preparation, employability skills and job searching. Neo skills corps sponsors two job fairs yearly to help participants obtain and maintain employment. Throughout the service year, neo skill corps provided financial literacy to 950 individuals. Of the number who completed the pre- and post-test, 98% demonstrated an increase in knowledge due to the material presented. Members completed more than 4,008 hours of core financial literacy facilitation, offered 1,671 electives, and completed 3,342 hours of workshop facilitation. Neo skill corps assisted 873 individuals to either open bank accounts (352), create a budget (410), develop a debt management plan (111) and completed 610 hours of financial 1:1 coaching. Neo skill corps assisted 902 individuals, 362 completed job training with 164 obtaining employment, 376 completed workkeys and received certificates and 3,297 hours of adult education counseling were provided. The adult wellness program is open monday-friday, 9:30 am -2:30 pm and serves adults that are 60 years or better and individuals that are 18-59 and have a disability. The program offers three distinct services including congregate meals, transportation and adult development. The congregate meal program consists of breakfast, lunch and a snack provided to our clients on a daily basis. The program contracts out to a transportation company to provide transportation for our clients to and from their homes to the agency. The adult development activities are based on the hettler wellness model that is comprised of programming including the categories of physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual and occupational wellness. In the last program year, the adult wellness program served 59 clients and transported 28 clients to and from their homes as well as on field trips which totaled 1,202 trips. The program served 3,547 meals including breakfast, lunch and snack. University settlement serves as the lead agency for mound stem and fullerton schools in the community wraparound strategy. They provide oversite to the site coordinators who support the schools through the recruitment and coordination of communit

ACCOMPLISHMENTS CONTINUED:

In the last program year, 72 households were served, which included 274 individuals. Of these individuals, 49 had mental health issues, 40 were victims of domestic violence and 28 suffered from substance abuse. The barriers that led to homelessness can be plentiful but the families are determined to become anchored in the community and work towards housing stabilization. The smarty's program is a critical out-of-school time (ost) program that is designed to establish a community learning center. Youth receive daily homework help and tutoring in the core subjects of reading and math. Youth are also offered a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academics such as arts, music, science, technology, recreation, service learning projects, and drug and alcohol prevention activities. During the school year, the smarty's program served 62 youth k-8th grade. 76% of youth who attended the program at least 60 days or more demonstrated a minimum of one year's growth in reading and 78% demonstrated a minimum of one year's growth in math. University settlement has been the lead agency for the division of children and family services (dcfs) for the family to family contract for 19 years. This program serves families with children under the age of 18 who are in or at risk of entering the child welfare system. Staff connects families to community-based resources, provides monthly support to foster, adoptive and kinship families, and is a visitation site for families who are trying to regain custody of their child. During the year, family to family staff housed 146 visitations, representing 12 families. One family completed the adoption process and agreed to allow continued house visits at university settlement. Additionally, four families successfully reunified and two transitioned to in-home visits. Unfortunately, families are not always able to reunify. When this occurs, staff works with dcfs staff and the family to initiate a plan that allows the parents to remain in the child's life after permanency. In total, 231 families who had dcfs involvement were provided services, 48 non-dcfs families were served and 410 families received one-time services. The family to family team was invited to 228 team decision making meetings by dcfs and their overall attendance was 96%. The magic johnson community empowerment center (mjcec) provides access to resources and programming that educate, empower and strengthen individuals though the innovative use of technology. The mjcec regularly hosts classes aimed at helping community members of all ages to learn about the various uses of technology and find ways to use technology to improve their lives personally, academically and professionally. In addition to holding classes on-site, classes and tech support were provided at four local senior high-rise apartments so residents could learn how to better utilize technology in their everyday life. The mjcec provided regular programming for youth in university settlement's smarty's out-of-school-time program. Students learned essential reading and math skills, digital literacy, and took part in programming aimed at improving their social and emotional health. Older adults and community residents also received regular programming services. The mjcec served over 300 unduplicated individuals through its various programs and services.
