IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0HIRAM HOUSE PARTNERED WITH THE LERNER SCHOOL FOR AUTISM AT CLEVELAND CLINIC TO PROVIDE A DAY CAMP FOR YOUTH DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD). THE SUMMER OF 2017 MARKED THE INAUGURAL SUMMER AT HIRAM HOUSE CAMP FOR STUDENTS AT THE LERNER SCHOOL. 23 STUDENTS RANGING IN AGE FROM 10-21 YEARS OF AGE PARTICIPATED IN VARIOUS SUMMER CAMP ACTIVITIES DURING THEIR WEEK-LONG PROGRAM. PROGRAMS INCLUDED ARCHERY, SWIMMING, HORSEBACK RIDING, FARMSTEAD (ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND GARDENING), ARTS AND CRAFTS, BOATING, HIKING, GAMES AND CAMPFIRES. OUR SUMMER CAMP PROVIDED AN IDEAL SETTING FOR A CHILD WITH ASD. SUMMER CAMP HELPS TO ADDRESS PEER INTERACTIONS, SOCIAL COMMUNICATION, DEVELOPMENT OF INTERACTIVE PLAY SKILLS, AND ENGAGEMENT IN GROUP ACTIVITIES. HIRAM HOUSE OFFERS A MORE NATURAL SETTING FOR ADDRESSING A BROADER RANGE OF SOCIAL SKILLS THAN POSSIBLE IN OTHER TYPICAL ENVIRONMENTS, EVEN AN INCLUSIVE CLASSROOM. CHANCES ARE GREATER FOR GENERALIZATION OF SKILLS FROM CAMP TO HOME BECAUSE THE INTERVENTIONS OCCUR IN A NATURALISTIC SETTING. HIRAM HOUSE WORKED CLOSELY WITH STAFF FROM THE LERNER SCHOOL TO PROVIDE A QUALITY PROGRAM FOR THEIR STUDENTS.
