Mission

Our purpose is to enhance the basic dignity of all humanity through mentoring, education and the arts. As pro-active stewards, we are working to strengthen cultural resources, increase economic access and develop affordable housing, as we support a diverse, sustainable neighborhood in Detroit's North End and surrounding communities.

Program Services

In 2019 the organization continued to strengthening the board of directors and advisory committee. Plans were developed and funds secured for the deconstruction and demolition of one residential property, and the updating of two residential properties. This work was designed to enhance our skilled trades training program. We continued to work with returning citizens and community service workers provided by the Wayne county department of corrections program. Our project and technical managers continued with the restoration, maintenance, and repair training related to residential property upkeep.$0$42,369
In 2019, Greater Woodward CDC worked to create a volunteer team to manage the hot meal program conducted by St. Matthew's & St. Joseph's Episcopal Church. This sustainable project continued to provided two free, family style, hot meals, served twice per week, to men, women and children, throughout the Detroit Community. We made arrangements for the team to receive training through Gleaners Food Bank for food safety handling. Typically, between 70 to 100 people were served each meal, approximately 8500 wholesome, nutritional, complete meals were served during the year. Through this program, shelf stable foodstuffs, and fresh fruits and vegetables, were made available throughout the year with donations from Forgotten Harvest, and Gleaners. Our Friends from Detroit's musical and artistic community continued to donate their time, talent, and food staples, to support this program. The volunteer and giving spirit of our team members has significantly reduced the cost of our programs.$0$3,096
In 2019 we continued to work with the Wayne County Department of Correction, our blight elimination program utilized volunteers from the community and community service workers. Our focus remained with the 7 block area in the North End, from Holbrook to Alger, and Woodward to Brush. The teams were out twice weekly, during the spring, summer and fall, removing debris, and cleaning vacant lots.$0$0
