| The Jamul Action Committee worked diligently throughout 2016 with the rural community of Jamul/Dulzura. As the mission of the Jamul Action Committee several issues were focused on. Safety is an extremely important issue to the residents of the Jamul Dulzura region. This area encompasses 164 square miles. The Jamul Dulzura Union School District and the Jamul Dulzura Community Planning Group share the boundaries.The main artery for transportation is the State Route Highway 94. This road is a two lane, winding, rural road that travels west to east and also takes the Tecate, Mexico international traffic. For the most part the road is ranked at a sservice level of F. It is dangerous, with high level daily traffic counts. The Jamul Action Committee worked to keep the community informed of the Caltrans issues and requesting mitigation to improve safety issues.The Jamul Action Committee led the drive to petition the Alcohol Beverage Contgrol Board to address the safety of serving alcohol at a mega Indian casino. TH ABC Board had issued a temporary license prior to the opening of the casino without restrictions. In addition to the already overburdened Highway 94, the now opened Indian casino's only ingress and egress is SR94. This unplanned increase in traffic has led the community to even greater concerns for road safety with potential drunk drivers. JAC met with the community repeatedly, gathering over 1000 protestant letters, which were sent to the ABC. Prior to attending an ABC hearing scheduled for the middle of November, JAC held a large community meeting. The meeting's purpose was to outline the format of the hearing, the rules and what could be addressed by the protestants. Community aattendance was approximately 300. ABC Board hearing was held for two days during the week, in which over 200 community members attended.The Jamul Action Committee held monthly and bi-monthly meetings throughout the Jamul area. These meetings were to keep the community informed in an informal setting, allowing for questions/answers and discussion. The internet has been utilized to provide community updates throughout the year. JAC also utilizes the JAC website to provide updates, information and history.Members of the Jamul Action Committee also attended various Jamul meetings and events including the Jamul Dulzura Community Planning Group, Jamul Kiwanis, County of San Diego meetings/hearings and the Fire District. | - | - |
