Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Shared harvest foundation is a community-based culturally responsive volunteer first responders with a mission to safely connect residents to resources in real time, by real people. Our aim is to reach people that are displaced due to crisis. Our activities include (1) nonprofit capacity building (2) care management network, (3) healthcare workforce wellbeing and financial resilience and (3) equity in health and public interest technologies. We support our pipeline by promoting the financial health and mental wellbeing of those frontline volunteers who are taking care of others in the midst of disasters & humanitarian crisis through our student loan relief program.

Shared harvest foundation's mission is to spread compassion through wellness, service & relief.

Our aim is to reach people that are uninsured, underinsured, homeless or displaced from their medical homes due to crisis. Our activities include (1) clinical volunteer matching, (2) the community health partners taskforce of multicultural medical doctors, (3) coronavirus testing, vaccinations and public telehealth navigation, and (3) health and digital equity consulting. We support our pipeline by promoting the financial health and mental wellbeing of those frontline volunteers who are taking care of others in the midst of the pandemic through our student loan relief program.

THIS IS FURTHER EXACERBATED BY THE BURDEN OF SIX FIGURES OF MEDICAL EDUCATION AND STUDENT DEBT THAT MANY BIPOC HEALTH PROFESSIONALS CARRY. ACCORDING TO THE EDUCATION DATA INITIATIVE, 40% OF BLACK GRADUATES HAVE STUDENT LOAN DEBT FROM GRADUATE SCHOOL COMPARED TO 22% OF WHITE GRADUATES. ADDITIONALLY, FOUR YEARS AFTER GRADUATION, 48% OF BLACK STUDENTS OWE, ON AVERAGE, 12.5% MORE THAN THEY BORROWED, WHILE 83% OF WHITE STUDENTS OWE 12% LESS THAN THEY BORROWED. THESE DEBT INEQUITIES LEAD TO EXCESSIVE FINANCIAL BURDENS, DELAYED PROFESSIONAL ADVANCEMENT, AND HIGH RATES OF DEPRESSION/ANXIETY.
