Recycling and reuse northwest hub diverts bicycle-related waste from area landfills through our collaboration with marion county environmental services. In addition to refurbishing approximately 1000 bicycles and reuse of thousands of components, tires and tubes, 36,160 pounds steel and alloy from bicycle-related waste was recycled. Volunteer purchase program the northwest hub provided 457 complete bicycle commuter packages for essential transportation. These commuter packages include a bicycle, high security u-lock, lights, helmet, and essential accessories, allowing clients to seek employment, commute to work and meet basic transportation needs (refurbished bikes, locks, lights, and helmets require 68 wholesale goods per recipient, atop staff time, training, and each donated bicycle's market value. Referred predominantly by parole resources, oregon youth authority, homeless shelters, treatment programs and salem for refugees. Bike recipients commute by bike because they cannot afford or rely upon salem's limited public transportation system. Trainees received over 3,000 hours of skills training and oversight of bicycle reclamation and repair efforts. Vocational rehabilitation and skills training northwest hub completed another year of vocational training for young adults who are on probation and/or homeless. A total of five young people participated in a 6-month program which provides them life skills training, job training, licensed counseling, and transitional employment. Five interns successfully procured employment or higher educational opportunities upon graduation. The northwest hub currently employs five staff hired through vocational rehabilitation programs through oregon employment department, easter seals, and northwest hub's frame up program. As a contract provider for oed and dhs's skills training and employment program and easter seals scsep program, four current participants are receiving technical and job training. Other services provided provided bi-weekly free repairs and helmet distribution to low income farmworkers in north marion county (26 separate repair and distribution events in woodburn, oregon. We served low income students at 8 community events during the past fiscal year. Safe routes to schools accounted for most events in which we offered free repairs and helmets to predominantly title-one student families. Additionally, we distributed bikes and provided 35 weekly mobile repair services to mt angel and woodburn. Income based donations and discounts reduced and no cost goods and services were provided to snap beneficiaries and low income clients. This included 32,205 free in store goods and services; 14,846 income based discounts; 9,441 discounts to nonprofits serving low income clients.
