Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Fashion & compassion provides a unique combination of healing, support, and work readiness for women overcoming a wide range of vulnerable situations, including addiction, incarceration, human trafficking, abuse, and ethnic persecution. We empower the women - our artisans - by connecting them to a supportive community. Through our weekly jewelry projects, they come together to make beautiful jewelry and accessories that are then sold through our local boutique and other channels. The weekly jewelry projects serve as a vehicle by which the women work with our staff to develop a personal artisan empowerment plan, establishing personally-meaningful goals - such as stable housing, continued employment, continued sobriety, english language acquisition, and financial literacy - to achieve during their 3-6 months in our program. Fashion & compassion staff then work with each artisan throughout her time with us to break her goals into achievable milestones. We collaborate with additional partn

Through jewelry- making, artisans gain technical skills while cultivating critical work- readiness skills relevant across industry sectors. Artisans receive a stipend for their time in the program, which helps with basic expenses such as transportation, prescription medicines, and supporting their family's needs. Prior to graduation, the fashion & compassion staff equips each artisan with referrals, recommendations, and resources to help her as she moves towards the next phase of her life.”
