“Water initiatives: in 2016, ctcu was able to drill 7 borehole wells providing clean/safe water to 7,543 children in need. One of these was drilled in progali central, pader district, uganda, in partnership with a teammates for life, inc and a grant from pfizer. The other 6 were drilled in the following locations and were done in partnership with 7 connecticut based rotary clubs and rotary international.- arabaka village, soroti- agaja village, soroti- akisim village, soroti- corner olwero village, alebtong- ariet village, serere- okulai village/kamuda victorious academy, sorotiall of these water projects were able to address the serious health needs in each of these communities. They were also able to target education and safety issues, as well as overall community development. Each borehole will be maintained by elected well committee members at each site for sustainability for years to come. We also worked with a past recipient school in serere, uganda on a repair project of their borehole well.partnerships: in addtion to accelerating our fair trade craft programs area by connecting with more venues and organizations throughout the state, ctcu also had great success by parterning with the mercy center in madison to display and sell wares made by ugandan artisans. Ctcu also worked hard on building and nurturing our academic partnerships and working with area schools. The country school in madison is one example where programs are coordinated on an ongoing basis. Presentations are done at the school keeping students up to date on their peer "twin" school in uganda. Also, collections of shoes and school supplies are organized by students and teachers. St. Paul's school in kensington is another school that is working hard with a school of peers in remote uganda through ctcu. They organize fundraisers and bottle returns to help their sister school meet their academic goals. The daniel hand high school uganda club in madison has also, once again, excelled in student leadership and advocacy through their events that have raised awareness of the plight of ugandan children we work with. They led campaigns to collect shoes for needy children, and they also designed a logo for a new school in kaberamaido. We also continue to work with earth2 to plan for future "wellfed" events that help to raise ample funding for drilling borehole wells in remote villages during dinner events. Ctcu began working with the lions club of madison to send over 1,000 pair of eyeglasses to orphans at the chain foundation in mukono, uganda. To help us fulfill our mission in serving vunerable children through health and education initiatives, the remedy organization in new haven donated over a ton of medical supplies for the nakaseke nursing & midwifery college.networking & social media presence: during 2016, call to care uganda worked diligently on our social media programs, with frequent posts utilizing facebook and twitter. In addition, the website was updated with current details and staff directory. We continue to be able to acccept paypal contributions directly through our website. More and more people find out about our work through these social media avenues, and we will work hard to continue to improve them.we were invited to the rotary district keynote presentation in april and connected with many new clubs in the state. We were able to share information about the unity school that is currently being built as we network with our international partner, stitching chica, in denmark.a trip to check in on our many open projects in uganda was made by our president during the last quarter of the year. In addition, a speaking engagement was held in grand haven, michigan, with a church that is actively involved in the current unity school build project. This is anticipated to happen annually.”
