PUBLIC SUPPORT, SECTION C, LINE 17a:Satisfaction of the 10% Facts and Circumstances Test:This historical society has normally and consistently received the majority of its support from two government sources; the city and township in which it is located. This has been the case for many years since its founding in 1967. In addition to financial resources, the two governments also provide the use of a city-owned facility for its administrative, event-planning, programming and fund-raising needs at a cost of $1.00 per year. Multiple members of public provide donations.Substantial direct public support comes from membership which includes a fee used for support and provides a periodic newsletter with news of upcoming programs & columns with info of historic note. Historic buildings, museums & gardens have regular and posted hours available for public enjoyment.Educational programs are provided by volunteers for the public, in the schools and for school tours of museums. One building houses archives of historic documents and geneology records available for researchers and readers. Public access hours are consistently provided. Several fundraisers are held each year but two have been the most successful; a holiday tour of historic areas and homes,and one focused on historic meals and foods of the area. Tickets are sold to cover costs and additional support. The board of directors is drawn from members of the local community of various backgrounds and skills.
