“The collections, which were acquired through purchases and contributions since the association's inception, are not recognized as assets on the statement of financial position. Purchases of collection items are recorded as decreases in unrestricted net assets in the year in which the items are acquired or as temporarily or permanently restricted net assets if the assets used to purchase the items are restricted by donors. Contributed collection items are not reflected on the financial statements.”

“The ohioana collection is comprised of the literary work of ohio writers and books about ohio. It contains more than 100,000 items including 45,000 books, 22,000 biographical files, and 10,000 pieces of sheet music, ohio periodicals, scrapbooks on various topics, manuscripts, and subject files. Ohioana's mission is to recognize and encourage the creative accomplishments of ohioans, preserve and expand a permanent archive of books, sheet music, manuscripts, and other materials by ohioans and about ohio, and disseminate information about the work of ohio writers, musicians, and other artists to researchers, schools, and the general public. The ohioana collection is the basis on which all of ohioanas programming is based.”

“The endowment includes both restriced and unrestriced funds to support the mission and programs of the ohioana library.”

The association has no unrelated business income. The association believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements.”
