“The organization has a conflict of interest policy that covers officers, directors, and employees. Under the policy no officer or director of abc or any other corporation, firm, association, or other entity in which one or more of abc's officers or directors are officers or directors or have a material financial interest, shall be interested, directly or indirectly, in any contract or transaction, unless: a) the material facts regarding that officer's or director's financial interest in such contract or transaction or regarding such common directorship, officer's position, or financial interest are fully disclosed in good faith and noted in this corporation's minutes, or such facts are known to all board of directors prior to the board's consideration of such contract or transaction; b) such contract or transaction is authorized in good faith by a majority of the board by a vote sufficient for that purpose without counting the vote or votes of the interested officers or directors; c) before authorizing or approving the contract or transaction, the board considers and in good faith decides after reasonable investigation that this corporation could not obtain a more advantageous arrangement with reasonable effort under the circumstances; and d) this corporation for its own benefit enters into the contract or transaction, which is fair and reasonable to this corporation when the contract or transaction is entered into. Abc also requires all board members/directors of the board to sign a statement affirming a) receipt of the abc conflict of interest policy, b) understanding of the policy and c) agreement with the policy. Abc requires all employees to annually disclose all sources of income from compensation or from ownership of any outside entity that a) sold, supplied or provided services, b) operated a competing enterprise, or c) provided goods or services to abc in the last 12 months.”

“1. Latino/a scorecard research and community engagement abc began the first and second phases to develop the 2021 latino scorecard report that answers a series of critical questions about the opportunities and challenges facing latino/as in los angeles county and establishes a grade/score in five different focus areas. The scorecard will uplift the assets that latino/as bring to the county as well as highlight opportunity gaps that have acted as barriers that prevent latino communities from fully thriving. The scorecard will culminate into a report with secondary research analyses and public policy recommendations - informed by issue experts and community - across various areas. These recommendations will be moved forward in advocacy and organizing efforts across each area. An expected release date for the report is july 2021. 2. K-12 & higher education dual language learner and english learner success abc co-chairs the advisory committee for english learner success and developed and launched the 2020-2021 policy agenda for english learner success. Abc worked with advisory committee members and also developed the necessary campaign plan to highlight the needs and assets of dual language learner and english learner students in california and act as a framework to improve their educational access, quality and outcomes. Abc worked with partner organizations to help pass a los angeles unified school district resolution to improve distance learning. Measures took into account student and family engagement, socioemotional wellbeing, community need and plans for additional support for high need students, like english learners and students with disabilities. Closing the digital divide during the pandemic, access to reliable and affordable internet has played a bigger role in providing lifelines to low-income households and regions with majority latino/a residents. Whether accessing critical vaccine and covid-19 testing or trying to join a class through virtual learning, the digital divide has spotlighted enormous inequities that exist for latino/as to access the internet and the lack of investments to build the necessary infrastructure in these communities. Abc submitted a list of policy recommendations with more than 50 social justice and education equity organizations calling on specific steps that are needed to close the digital divide that exists in los angeles county. Abc helped to lead 40 organizations to call on the city of los angeles, the county of los angeles and internet service providers to take specific steps to close the digital divide in low income communities. Lausd funding in may 2021, we celebrated advocacy efforts when the los angeles unified school district (lausd) school board pledged to protect and double equity-based funding for the 2021-22 school year. Our team supported partner organizations to push for change and took the lead on a resolution letter of support to the school board that included dozens of community partners. 3. Civic engagement abc parents were trained in voter outreach and helped to launch the first electoral program for the november presidential election. The program reached 850,000+ registered voters in the los angeles region in collaboration with partner organizations to increase voter turnout on high impact statewide measures. In addition, abc convened partners to jointly host community-led candidate forums for the lausd board election. Released a 2020 voter guide in both english and spanish to make ballot measures easier to understand and highlight the impact they have on los angeles latinos. Abc played a significant role in the prop 15 steering committee that highlighted our long-term investment in ensuring proper funding, services, and programs in the communities we serve. Abc census promotores reached targeted latino/a and immigrant communities via cell phone calls and text messages to ensure they had completed the census questionnaire.
