Form 990 Part III, Line 4A - Program Service Accomplishment

Alliance for a better community has made great strides to uplift the needs of the latino community, create and pursue sound policy solutions across issues and local geographies by convening and collaborating with diverse partners and allies to increase equity in education, health, and civic engagement. Alliance for a better community developed a number of policy and advocacy agendas using a community-centered approach that is supported by data. With a strong foundation of shared common values, alliance for a better community worked closely with experts, partner organizations and community residents to produce agendas targeting issues that have deep impacts to latino students and their families and focused on regions with opportunities to build greater power to lead to greater systemic change. These have been used by alliance for a better community as frameworks for advocacy to 1) highlight the needs and assets of latino students, dual language learners, and english learners in los angeles and across california to improve educational access, quality, and outcomes, 2) improve college access and success among latino students, 3) increase public resources to specific regions that have been historically underserved, 3) raise greater awareness and education among communities to increase civic participation in elections, and 4) expand health coverage to more californians. Our accomplishments have enabled alliance for a better community to pursue our vision for greater opportunities for latinos and the los angeles region to prosper and thrive.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The corporation qualifies as a tax exempt organization under internal revenue code section 501(c)(3) and california revenue and taxation code 23701d. The corporation has evaluated its tax positions and the certainty as to whether those positions will be sustained in the event of an audit by taxing authorities at the federal and state levels. The primary tax positions evaluated relate to the corporations continued qualification as a tax-exempt organization and whether there are unrelated business income activities that would be taxable. Management has determined that all income tax positions will more likely than not (>50%) be sustained upon potential audit or examination; therefore, no disclosure of uncertain income tax positions are required. The corporation files information returns in the us federal jurisdiction and the state of california. With few exceptions, the corporation is no longer subject to u.s. Federal and state examinations by tax authorities for years before 2015.
