First star score card program includes: 1) childhood fatality reporting - first star has published "state secrecy and child deaths in the u.s.", a graded analysis and ranking of state disclosure practices regarding child abuse and neglect fatalities or near fatalities. The report advocates publicizing information about child abuse and neglect in a predictable, consistent, and enforceable manner. First star also publishes "a child's right to counsel", a graded analysis and ranking of state laws and practices related to children's rights to effective legal representation by competent lawyers specially trained and able to counsel and advocate on their behalf. First star continues to collect data, conduct detailed analysis and document state practices in reporting such information. 2)campaign for a child's right to counsel - first star is working to ensure that all abused and neglected children in america have competent legal representation and a voice during critical court proceedings that implicate their rights and will determine their future. 3)state taking of foster children social security benefits - first star is working to reform the widespread and unethical practice of states intercepting the social security assets of foster children in order to reimburse themselves for the cost of foster care. First star published a national report on this topic entitled "the fleecing of foster children: how we confiscate their assets and undermine their financial security".

Activity 3

National institute on child abuse and interpersonal violence - first star is advocating for a new institute for the study of child abuse and interpersonal violence. This national entity would house, consolidate and disseminate the science of child abuse in a comprehensive and coordinated manner. The science of child abuse and interpersonal violence has advanced considerably, lending to knowledge of the physiological, economic and societal consequences of violence endured and witnessed by children. Beyond academia, such information has been mainstreamed, with recent articles reporting on advances in memory science, and more understood daily about the effects of abuse - physical, sexual or emotional - patterns on the brain and body, as well as other iniatives.
