Mission and Program Overview

Mission

In november 2012 this organization suspended operations. Prior to the suspension, this organization's primary purpose was to further the common interest of its members and of the ocean liner carrier industry in fostering and servicing foreign commerce with approval of the federal maritime commission. Ctsa performed record keeping and filing and kept minutes on behalf of its members, who are engaged principally in the transportation of cargo.

Major Activities

Activity 2
In mid 2011 the member lines implemented a revision in the calculation and methodology of their guideline formula for the recovery of fluctuating costs for bunker fuel. The revised formula reflected the updated vessels being used by ocean carriers as well as the most recent changes in steaming patterns used by carriers in order to conserve fuel and improve fuel consumption.
Activity 3
During the course of the year, members continued to review and monitor the impact of fluctuations in the canadian dollar-us dollar exchange rate and its effect on costs to the carriers; and to make changes to the currency exchange factor that had been developed in 2009 as a recommended voluntary guideline, to their basic rates, that would help to offset any financial impact from the currency movements.
