The foundation is organized and operated exclusively for the benefit of the university of virginia by providing financial support for scientific research at the university's health sciences center, school of engineering and applied sciences, and college of arts and sciences.

Pursuant to the foundation's by-laws, the foundation enforces and monitors officers, directors, and employees' compliance with its conflict of interest policy in two ways: 1. Officers, directors, and employees sign the "conflict of interest acknowledgement and disclosure form" attesting to their awareness of the policy as well as the presence and/or absence of conflict of interest. 2. Officers, directors, and employees of the foundation are required to fully disclose all conflicts of interest promptly.
