Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part I, Line 1

Generations On Line is dedicated to enhancing communication among generations by fostering and promoting digital literacy to seniors.

Form 990, Part III, Line 4A

In 2020 we were twenty years old! What began as a five-year project, 20 years later has helped more than 126,000 seniors in every state in the nation and many English-speaking countries. This past year tested every nonprofit not only to perform at their best, but to survive remotely! When COVID hit we were eminently qualified and well positioned to newly isolated seniors and their families with new tools, techniques, and programs to overcome their lack of skill and anxiety about technology. To this end we created the following: We tackled remote training as soon as the pandemic hit, adding zoom tutorials, use of smartphone for internet and texting, and creating a kit for family members to guide older friends and relatives on to a device. ZOOM! We created an onscreen step-by-step ZOOM training tutorial for seniors, in addition to our Skype and FaceTime trainings. Zoom is the platform of choice for families needing to get together during the pandemic. So we created a simple training tutorial for the senior to respond to an invitation from a family member and placed a shortcut on our "Easy Tablet Help for Seniors" homepage. This was so successful that we began hearing from senior centers and other institutions to help them build awareness motivation and training for their population to zoom into programs. Telemedicine Chronic disease, often affecting older people, means telemedicine is ideally suited to seniors. But computer anxiety restrains them, and doctors often have to resort to a phone call when the patient gives up in frustration. Working with Penn Medicine geriatrics, we created website training for seniors to understand how to use 'BlueJeans', the HIPPA-approved telemedicine videoconferencing tool. Tapping into local news via Generations on Line online newspapers Inspired by the Lenfest Institute for Journalism to create an app to introduce seniors accessing and reading newspapers online, we created this exciting free website. We are grateful to the many seniors who participated in focus groups and interviews to help us design this. We will launch it in 2021. Easy Census Help Census 2020 was mostly online. We worked with the Mayor's office and the regional US Census staff to create a useful preview and practice site that was used by more than 4000 seniors in senior centers and at home since early March. We received funding for promotion from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Philanthropy Network. Workforce Development Thanks to initial funding from The Weinberg Foundation and ongoing support from Mellon Wealth Management, we created and maintained a fulsome pC training program to help seniors learn How to find job opportunities through the Internet and apply for them online. These past two years we have worked with the mayor's Commission on aging Ann helped hundreds of older retirees in their quest for part time employment. Rural training Of our 323 Sip & Swipe Cafes, 120 are in rural counties in Wisconsin. We tackled and overcame the barrier to Internet use by seniors in rural communities, helping thousands in 30 rural counties in Wisconsin, thanks to three years of generous grants by Bader Philanthropies. So you can see, we are moving toward more partnerships, a broadened portfolio of offerings, but nonetheless still laser-focused on our mission: to overcome the barriers and reconnect the generations by reducing the digital divide for seniors. Four new Board Members to our Board of Advisors Julie Nelson, Manager Philadelphia Senior Center Karen Washington, Philadelphia Corporation for Aging John Gonzalez, Project Director, SCSEP, Janett Aponte, Program Outreach Specialist, Mayor's Commission on Aging All in all after 20 years We are proud to say through our training and advocacy, we probably played a part in reducing the divide from 86% down to 27% - from the day Norman Minetta, then U.S. Secretary of Commerce and Mayor Street launched us September 7, 2000. However, but that still means more than a quarter of th

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Generations On Line is dedicated to enhancing communication among generations by fostering and promoting digital literacy to seniors.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1In 2020 we were twenty years old!
