Major Activities

Activity 2

General public programs - provided science and history programs to familiarize the public ages 8-80 with the history of the work of the observatory. Offering twice weekly public astronomy lectures and viewing sessions using the historic telescopes as well as a number of special events which explore particular celestial objects and rare, once-in-a-lifetime, astronomical events such as comets and eclipses. Hosted classes for all ages and experience levels, offered hands-on workshops for new telescope owners and those pursuing astrophotography, monthly lecture series for in-depth advanced topics showcasing observatory staff and professional educators and astronomers from local schools, universities and in collaboration with other nonprofit education service providers, hosted and staffed free public stargazes at area schools, nursing homes, civic organizations and other nonprofits, public areas and city, county and state parks. Over 10,000 served.

Activity 3

University programming - provided hands-on learning opportunities for stem (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) for 4 area colleges, programs for astronomy undergraduate and graduate students as well as non-science majors. Offering and expanding list of continuing education/lifelong learning courses jointly with the university of cincinnati. Over 500 served.
