“Wendy thomas morse and pamela farber have a family relationship.”
“The form 990 was reviewed internally by the financial management team and president & ceo. Upon their review a final draft of form 990 was sent via email to the board for their review prior to filing with the irs. They were asked to submit any questions/concerns to foundation management within 3 business days.”
“Each board member, staff and key volunteers shall annually complete a disclosure form identifying any relationships, positions or circumstances in which they believe could contribute to a conflict of interest arising. Any potential conflict of interest shall be treated as confidential and shall generally be made available only to the board chair, the president & ceo, and any committee appointed to address the situation.”
“The executive committee of the board of trustees is responsible for establishing compensation for the foundation's ceo; the full board is responsible for approval. On an annual basis, the executive committee establishes the compensation of the president & ceo based upon prior year performance and data comparing similar organizations, region of the country and budget capacity. The board also uses an independent compensation consultant. The executive committee and full board of trustees reviews and approves the annual budget that includes budgeted increases for the remainder of the staff. The president & ceo then determines, within the parameters set by the board, what the individual salaries of the staff will be, including increased compensation based on cost of living, merit, and/or position amendments.”
“The foundation maintains a copy of its form 990 and audited financial statements on its website. The governing documents and conflict of interest policy are available upon request.”
“The organization's oversight process has not changed from the prior year.”
“Grant recovery 1,224,675.”
“The foundation's quasi-endowment was established in 2017 and consists of various investment funds established primarily for the support of the foundation's mission. Its quasi-endowment represents board-designated endowment funds. As required by accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america, net assets associated with endowment funds, including funds designated by the board to function as endowments, are classified and reported based on the existence or absence of donor-imposed restrictions. Together, the endowment investment and quasi-endowment investment represent the endowment funds. The foundation manages its endowment funds in accordance with uniform prudent management of institutional funds act, which permits a nonprofit organization to appropriate investment income and appreciation on endowment funds for operations in absence of donor restrictions. Annual distributions are spent in accordance with the endowment funds spending policy. The foundation's spending policy permits withdrawals not to exceed 3% of the average market value of the fund's assets for the 12 consecutive calendar quarters ending december 31 of the year proceeding the current fiscal year. The distribution of income remains at the discretion of the executive board within the direction of the budget process. In addition, the foundation's investment policy outlines a philosophy and attitude that guides the investment management of the assets toward the desired results. It is intended to be sufficiently specific to be meaningful, yet flexible enough to be practical. To satisfy its long-term rate-of-return objectives, the foundation relies on a total return strategy in which investment returns are achieved through both capital appreciation (realized and unrealized) and current yield (interest and dividends). The foundation targets a diversified asset allocation that places a greater emphasis on equity-based investments to achieve its long-term return objectives within prudent risk constraints.”
“Income tax - the foundation is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The foundation has not identified any material uncertain tax positions requiring accrual or disclosure in the financial statements. There was no interest or penalties recognized during 2024 or 2023. The foundation's tax years since 2020 remain subject to examination.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | WENDY'S WONDERFUL KIDS:WENDY'S WONDERFUL KIDS, A SIGNATURE PROGRAM OF THE FOUNDATION, IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN ACROSS THE NATION - ONE CHILD AT A TIME. THE DAVE THOMAS FOUNDATION FOR ADOPTION AWARDS GRANTS TO PUBLIC AND PRIVATE AGENCIES TO HIRE ADOPTION PROFESSIONALS WHO IMPLEMENT AN EVIDENCE-BASED, CHILD-FOCUSED RECRUITMENT STRATEGY TARGETED EXCLUSIVELY ON MOVING AMERICA'S LONGEST-WAITING CHILDREN FROM FOSTER CARE INTO ADOPTIVE FAMILIES. SEE SCHEDULE O FOR ADDITIONAL NARRATIVE ON WENDY'S WONDERFUL KIDS.RESEARCH RELEASED IN 2011 FROM A FIVE-YEAR RIGOROUS EVALUATION OF WENDY'S WONDERFUL KIDS CHILD-FOCUSED RECRUITMENT MODEL SHOWED THAT CHILDREN SERVED BY THE PROGRAM ARE UP TO THREE TIMES MORE LIKELY TO GET ADOPTED. WENDY'S WONDERFUL KIDS RECRUITERS WORK WITH CHILDREN AND YOUTH AT GREATEST RISK OF AGING OUT OF FOSTER CARE WITHOUT AN ADOPTIVE FAMILY. THE RECRUITERS HAVE SMALLER CASELOADS, TO ENSURE THEY HAVE THE TIME AND RESOURCES TO GIVE EACH CHILD THE ATTENTION THAT CHILD DESERVES AND EMPLOY AN AGGRESSIVE EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE MODEL FOCUSED ON FINDING THE BEST HOME FOR A CHILD.THE DAVE THOMAS FOUNDATION FOR ADOPTION SUPPORTS 531 WENDY'S WONDERFUL KIDS RECRUITERS WORKING FOR CHILDREN IN THE U.S. MORE THAN 13,820 CHILDREN HAVE BEEN ADOPTED AS A RESULT OF WENDY'S WONDERFUL KIDS, AND ANOTHER 1,085 ARE IN THEIR PRE-ADOPTIVE PLACEMENTS SIMPLY WAITING FOR A FINAL COURT HEARING. |
