Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 28

Promote the sport of rowing gcra's primary purpose is to promote the sport of rowing in the central ohio area and amateur competition regionally and nationally. Our major programs are learn to row, speakmon regatta, para-adaptive rowing (parp) and providing instruction in safety and techniques to area rowers. Gcra's para-adaptive rowing program (parp), also known as adaptive rowing, is a community program that introduces people with physical challenges or handicaps to the sport of rowing. This program is a gcra member volunteered program. There are at least two sessions a week in which gcra volunteers provide para-adaptive rowing on either the ergs (rowing machines) in the off season or in boats in season (april-october). For 2021, this program trained 11 total athletes including 1 disabled veteran and 1 learn to row participant. Athletes participated in 3 regattas in addition to weekly on water training. Of note, we have several athletes on the wait list to join this program, which is currently capped due to limited volunteers. Gcra continued its partnership with relentless rowing academy (rra), which has the mission to provide access to rowing for black and indigenous and people of color (bipoc) athletes of all ages while breaking educational and financial barriers. Supporting rra's program outreach, gcra provided an introduction to rowing day for 18 prospective athletes, including instruction, safety and coaching support on land and water.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 29

Speakmon regatta the speakmon regatta offers competition to high school, college and masters competitors. After a year off in 2020, the regatta resumed in 2021 with a full schedule including 27 clubs participating with 281 entries in the full range of events including para-adaptive.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 30

Learn to row learn to row is open to any adult interested in learning how to row. This year we had a very successful program; 70 athletes participated in our traditional sculling and sweep training. In addition, we added a new advanced beginner course to continue training new athletes and help transition them to more experienced boats and prepare for fall competitions. Four boats of these athletes competed in the speakmon regatta. To execute the program, we hired many coxswains who are college or high school students. Not only does the club benefit from their coaching, they are gaining leadership skills and increased knowledge of coaching techniques.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4PROMOTE THE SPORT OF ROWING IN THE CENTRAL OHIO AREA AND AMATEUR COMPETITION REGIONALLY AND NATIONALLY.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt5PROMOTE THE SPORT OF ROWING GCRA'S PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO PROMOTE THE SPORT OF ROWING IN THE CENTRAL OHIO AREA AND AMATEUR COMPETITION REGIONALLY AND NATIONALLY.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt6SPEAKMON REGATTA THE SPEAKMON REGATTA OFFERS COMPETITION TO HIGH SCHOOL, COLLEGE AND MASTERS COMPETITORS. AFTER A YEAR OFF IN 2020, THE REGATTA RESUMED IN 2021 WITH A FULL SCHEDULE INCLUDING 27 CLUBS PARTICIPATING WITH 281 ENTRIES IN THE FULL RANGE OF EVENTS INCLUDING PARA-ADAPTIVE.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt7LEARN TO ROW LEARN TO ROW IS OPEN TO ANY ADULT INTERESTED IN LEARNING HOW TO ROW.
