Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

Kentucky clean and sustainable energy project this is a multi-faceted project. Kentucky has one of the highest precentages of electricity usage produced by burning coal of any state. The project aims to increase the percentage of renewable energy used within kentucky. We participated in and helped to facilitate the kentucky sustainable energy alliance and provided administrative services. We produced educational materials and provided web site support for the alliance. We had a major victory this year with the kentucky municipal energy agency (kymea). We have worked with our allies over the last several years to educate the kymea on their purchasing options. This year they announced incorporation of an 800 acre solar farm into their portfolio. Kymea sources power for numerous municipal utilities in kentucky. We showed the franklin county plant board (the municpal utility for frankfort) research that helped them diversify their energy portfolio and endorse a solar energy agreement. We monitor the developments at the federal level concerning the clean power plan and its replacement so we can be prepared to educate stakeholders on key developements. On the transportation front, we have had discussions with the major private utilities in kentucky about the advantages of electric vehicle adoption. We have begun to explore the opportunities for improving kentucky's electric vehicle infrasctructure. We have sponsored showings of the film "evolve: driving the clean energy future in coal country" expenses: 16,000 in consultant fees

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Kentucky biodiversity education project this is a multi-year project to educate citizens and stakeholders on the importance of preserving and enhancing kentucky's biologcal resources. We provided displays and distributed educational materials at the somerset green living fair, the springfield green festival, and the lexington birding festival. Significantly, we were able to secure a grant to produce an appalchian watershed climate and biodiersity summit to be held in 2019. At this event we will bring togther key stakeholders and interested parties to begin and foster discussions about how we can build resilient ecosystems in the light of climate chage. Expenses: 5000 funds raised: 19,600 (for the upcoming summit)

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

Developed a kentucky specific climate action plan we performed a comprehensive assessment of kentucky's climate change mitigation issues relating to the energy sector, to the transportation sector and to kentucky's land/agriculture and water resources. We summarized the health implications of these climate impacts and outlined recommendations for specific actions. A final report was produced for print and digital distribution. The report has been distributed as a resource to stakeholders and interested parties. It remains available in both print and digital formats. Expenses:16,000 staff time for research and/or consultants, plus 1,800 materials. Land stewardship various programs to promote land stewardship and conservation, which include research, promotion, web site development, and coordination between various groups working on these issues. Consultant fees: 19000

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0KENTUCKY CLEAN AND SUSTAINABLE ENERGY PROJECT THIS IS A MULTI-FACETED PROJECT.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1KENTUCKY BIODIVERSITY EDUCATION PROJECT THIS IS A MULTI-YEAR PROJECT TO EDUCATE CITIZENS AND STAKEHOLDERS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PRESERVING AND ENHANCING KENTUCKY'S BIOLOGCAL RESOURCES.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2DEVELOPED A KENTUCKY SPECIFIC CLIMATE ACTION PLAN WE PERFORMED A COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT OF KENTUCKY'S CLIMATE CHANGE MITIGATION ISSUES RELATING TO THE ENERGY SECTOR, TO THE TRANSPORTATION SECTOR AND TO KENTUCKY'S LAND/AGRICULTURE AND WATER RESOURCES.
