“We work for a better life for all low and moderate-income people through grass-roots organizing, education and outreach around issues of housing, education, safety and income security. We educated approximately 500 individuals at community presentations on kinship care policies and medicaid. 50 individuals were assisted in 1 on 1 sessions with applying for medicaid health care, kinship care, the supplemental nutrition assistance program and housing assistance. In addition 50 households received food assistance through the intervention of the contact center. Contact center also held 6 leadership skill workshops to train 40 members in how to stay on message in tellng their stories; how to speak at public hearings; and media skills such as how to write letters to the editor.”
