“Educating the next generation of physicians: created the summer scholars program. Between the first and second year of medical school, many of the ohio medical students participate in an internship. While an internship is not always a requirement in medical school, it is a desired experience. Unfortunately, many of the internship opportunities are unpaid. Financial aid is not available to students when they are in between semesters. The foundation created the summer scholars program to award financial stipends to medical students with unpaid internships. This support will provide a financial stipend so they can continue with their learning uninterrupted by having to get a job to pay basic expenses.”
“Support physical well-being: through the work of the physician wellbeing committee and as an extension of prior efforts of the foundation to support their activities. The foundation secured a grant from the physicians foundation to support the development, branding, marketing and outreach needed to promote the well- being care service program. In partnership with the american foundation for suicide prevention and the ohio physicians health program, osma established the well-being care service, a simple, free, and anonymous checkup of mental and emotional health. The program will provide a questionnaire-which takes 10 minutes to complete. Then, a licensed mental health professional will review the answers and users will receive a personalized response with recommendations for next steps. Users will choose whether they'd like to connect with the licensed mental health professional to establish a helpful relationship for further action. All participation is completely voluntary and anonymous. Ultimately the goal is to make this service available to all ohio healthcare workers at no cost.”
