The ymca also provides facilities for individuals and families who swim for recreation and wellness. The ymca also promotes competitive swimming through its own age group swim program which has 120 members and provides use of its facility to six area high schools with nearly 175 swimmers.”

“Piqua senior citizen center: with the assistance of the city of piqua, united way, and local nursing homes, the ymca opened its youth center to be used as a senior center during daytime hours when the center is not open to teens. The seniors enjoy access to recreational activities including cards, video games (wii), billiards, bingo and carry-in lunches. The center has been successful largely because of local volunteers who have encouraged the ymca to undertake this program. While the planning process began in 2008, the program was not initiated until late 2008. Funding is provided through active participant memberships and sustaining memberships contributed by local benefactors. In keeping with its policy of including everyone regardless of ability to pay, the ymca provides financial assistance to those unable to afford the membership. In addition, the senior center includes the following activities: personal finance seminars vision/hearing/blood screening stress reduction seminars nutrition seminars trips to various museums, farms, and factories weekly potlucks & bingo games 211 seniors were served at the senior center in 2014. __________________________________________________________________________ diabetes screening and education program: individuals at risk are referred by their doctors to participate in a 10- week educational program which includes healthy lifestyle management to control their diabetic condition. Also included is a free six month ymca membership so individuals can continue their exercise program to improve their health. The program is conducted with the assistance of the local hospital, diabetes association, and miami county health department. State funding for this program has ceased.
