AS A RESULT, THE PROGRAM EXPERIENCED A 68% INCREASE IN OVERALL PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS. MOST NOTABLY AT THE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL LEVELS, WE EXPERIENCED A 109% INCREASE. EVEN AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL THE PROGRAM EXPERIENCED A 35% INCREASE IN PARTICIPATION BY OFFERING IT TO THE ENTIRE DISTRICT.WE BELIEVE THIS REFLECTS OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN OUR PROGRAM AND OUR COMMUNITY TO PROVIDE IMPROVED ACCESS TO FOOD RESOURCES TO ADDRESS A LEVEL OF NEED THAT, THOUGH WELL DOCUMENTED, IS OFTEN INVISIBLE. MOREOVER, THE SUMMER POP-UP FOOD PANTRY REMOVED BARRIERS TO SERVICE AND SERVED STUDENTS/FAMILIES IN WAYS THAT ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO THEM DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. BY REDUCING BARRIERS, OUR SUMMER PANTRY SIMPLY MADE GETTING FOOD AN EASIER AND MORE PLEASANT EXPERIENCE.ANOTHER STARTLING STATISTIC WAS THE 102% INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF ADULTS WE ASSISTED. THIS COULD BE A REFLECTION OF CURRENT ECONOMIC CONDITIONS THAT REQUIRE NON-TRADITIONAL LIVING ARRANGEMENTS AND ADULT CHILDREN LIVING LONGER WITH THEIR PARENTS.EVALUATIONBECAUSE THE IDENTITIES OF STUDENTS/FAMILIES WHO QUALIFY AS ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED IS CONFIDENTIAL, IT IS VERY DIFFICULT FOR THE HUDSON AREA BACKPACK PROGRAM TO COLLECT DATA DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. HOWEVER, WE WERE ABLE TO MEASURE THE IMPACT OF OUR WORK USING DATA FROM THE WISCONSIN DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION TO MEASURE WHAT PERCENTAGE OF ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES WE ARE REACHING. SCHOOL COUNSELORS ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE US WITH INFORMATION REGARDING WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THEIR STUDENTS USING OUR PROGRAM ARE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED.IN ADDITION, WE SURVEY ALL FAMILIES WHO PARTICIPATE IN OUR SUMMER PROGRAM. WE COLLABORATE WITH UW-EXTENSION OFFICIALS TO DESIGN AND ADMINISTER AN END-OF-PROGRAM SURVEY. UW-EXTENSION REPRESENTATIVES AND/OR BOARD MEMBERS ADMINISTER THIS SURVEY. THE DATA THAT IS COLLECTED IS USED NOT ONLY WITHIN OUR PROGRAM FOR PLANNING, BUT ALSO OUTSIDE OUR PROGRAM TO SHARE INFORMATION WITH OTHER SIMILAR ORGANIZATIONS, AND AMONGST COMMUNITY GROUPS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY.$0$48,454
