Mission

The mission of lyra music is to enrich the lives of youth and build community through classical music. Founded in 2010 with a vision of enhancing the lives of young musicians and enriching communities through classical music training and performance, lyra music supports the musical, emotional and personal development of every participant through a nurturing, non-competitive environment where each student is encouraged to reach their full potential. Lyra music produces an annual summer workshop and music festival as well as a youth music competition for string players and pianists.lyra students are young musicians, ages 11-18, immersed in a supportive, nurturing community where they live, work, and play with their peers and the dedicated lyra faculty and staff.

WORKSHOP:Lyra Workshop is a 3-week, conservatory-style classical music program held at Smith College in Northampton, MA in July. Lyra Core Curriculum participants are immersed in a supportive, nurturing community where they live, work and play with their peers and the dedicated Lyra faculty and staff. The workshop is geared towards the intensive study of solo and chamber music repertoire and includes performances in weekly outreach concerts engaging with the community, as well as opportunities to observe or participate in master classes and attend concerts produced by Lyra Music/performed by world-class musicians -- all within a fun and energetic atmosphere. LYRA MUSIC PROVIDES FINANCIAL AIDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS IN THE FORM OF REDUCTIONS IN REGISTRATION FEES, TUITION, ROOM AND BOARD TO STUDENTS WHO NEED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO ATTEND THE PROGRAM.IN 2019,17 STUDENTS ATTENDED THE WORKSHOP AND 7 STUDENTS RECEIVED SCHOLARSHIP AND FINANCIAL AID WORTH $12,200.$61,878-
MUSIC FESTIVALS:The Lyra Music Festival is an outstanding series of summer classical music events based in Northampton, MA. Each July Lyra Music brings together world class musicians, outstanding young string players and pianists and an exceptional faculty of professional musicians and educators for concerts, masterclasses and outreach performances.OUR MUSIC FESTIVAL INCLUDES GUEST ARTIST CONCERTS WHEREBY Internationally recognized musicians join Lyra Music on the solo concert stage each summer. Guest Artists have included musicians such as Simone Dinnerstein, Frederic Chiu, Matthew Zalkind, Itamar Zorman, Sibbi Bernhardsson, Michael Brown, Dane Johansen, Spencer Myer, Alexi Kenney, and Melissa White. These world class musicians perform in festivals and with ensembles including: Marlboro Music Festival, Ravinia Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Escher Quartet, Pacifica Quartet, Harlem Quartet, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Cleveland Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.THE MASTERCLASSES ASPECT OF OUR MUSIC FESTIVAL ALLOWS Lyra Festival audiences TO have the option to go behind-the-scenes AND attend Masterclasses where they will hear Lyra Music Workshop advanced students perform and watch as these students receive one-on-one coaching with Lyra Music Guest Artists.THIS ALLOWS, THE AUDIENCES THE OPPORTUNITY TO Learn more about the musical process and these incredible guest musicians as they share their personal insights and inspiration with Lyra Workshop students and the public.The Lyra Festival ALSO brings music to the community! Lyra Musics exceptional students perform free outreach concerts, sharing live classical music with audiences and organizations in the surrounding community. Lyra Students perform at nursing homes, senior centers and even enjoy a collaboration with the Eric Carle Museum and Stamell Stringed Instruments performing for the youngest audiences.Every component of Lyra Music programming is designed to work synergistically towards the goal of training young classical musicians and building community through world-class concerts and free-outreach events: inspiring and nurturing tomorrows musicians and music audiences.
