Activity 2

Thrift Store & Free Warehouse - Over 2000 square feet of household goods and furniture available free or at a nominal cost. This warehouse provided bedding, living room furniture, kitchen appliances and other items to 45 families. Common Things Thrift Store provides good quality used goods at considerably below market value a variety of items including clothing, toys, books, household goods, small furniture and jewelry. The Thrift Store uses 25 volunteers and also provided training and service opportunities to a adult residential facility, halfway house, work first clients and others who have gone on to gainful employment.

Activity 3

Thanksgiving Grocery Distribution known as the Great Turkey countdown gathers turkeys and all the fixins to provide a Thanksgiving feast to local families. 526 households (1762 individuals) received Thanksgiving baskets including everything to make a turkey dinner. Each of these baskets was delivered by community volunteers. In 2012 roughly 500 volunteers identified recipients, organized routes, packed boxes and delivered this bountiful blessing to families who would otherwise not have a Thanksgiving dinner. In addition 75 more turkeys were provided to meal delivery ministry, prison ministry and a Monroe NC food pantry not affiliated with Common Heart.
